UK linebacker Allen is Kentucky’s Sports Figure of the Year
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — University of Kentucky football player Josh Allen, who led the Wildcats to their best season in 41 years with a 10-3 finish and Citrus Bowl championship, has been chosen the 2018 Lexington Herald-Leader Kentucky Sports Figure of the Year.
Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen wins Lott IMPACT Trophy
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen has won the Lott IMPACT Trophy as the college defensive player having the biggest influence on his team.
Allen received the award Sunday night from former Hall of Fame safety Ronnie Lott at the Pacific Club. It goes to a player with strong academic work, community involvement and team leadership.
Allen edged fellow finalists Ben Burr-Kirven of Washington, Christian Wilkins of Clemson and Ben Humphreys of Duke.
Tagovailoa, Murray finalists for 2 college football awards
Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins were each named finalists for two of the nine awards to be presented Dec. 6 at the ESPN college Football Awards Show at the Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
Alabama football: Minkah Fitzpatrick named unanimous All-American
TUSCALOOSA — It’s unanimous.
Minkah Fitzpatrick was named a first team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association on Wednesday, making him the 17th unanimous All-American in coach Nick Saban’s Alabama tenure.
Fitzpatrick garnered first-team honors from the AFCA, Associated Press, The Sporting News, Walter Camp and the Football Writers Association of America. The junior defensive back was also the third player ever to win the Chuck Bednarik and Jim Thorpe Awards in the same season.
Shareef Miller named to Bednarik Watch List
Shareef Miller has been playing some outstanding football for Penn State. Miller, a George Washington High product, was added to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list for the nation’s College Defensive Player of the Year.
Miller, a former All-Public League standout, plays defensive end for the No. 3 Nittany Lions. The 6-foot-5, 257-pound sophomore has 20 total and 14 solo tackles, seven tackles for loss of 33 yards, three sacks and three quarterback hurries.

Twenty-five years ago, Pat Fitzgerald was a two-way player for Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois, in the southwest part of the suburban crescent around Chicago.
He soon blossomed into a star linebacker for Northwestern, leading the once-woebegone Wildcats to consecutive Big Ten championships. He won the Chuck Bednarik Award as the national defensive player of the year twice in a row. He even bounced back from a badly broken leg to reach the second round of accolades.
Ejiofor picks up national weekly award
Wake Forest defensive end Duke Ejiofor was named the Chuck Bednarik Player of the Week for his eight-tackle performance against Florida State on Saturday.
Ejiofor, a redshirt senior from Houston, had 3½ tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble against the Seminoles in a 26-19 loss. His eight tackles were a career best.
Wyoming’s Wingard on Nagurski watch list
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming junior safety Andrew Wingard has been named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List.
The Nagurski Trophy recognizes the top college defensive player of the year.
Two Clemson players named to Bednarik Watch list; ESPYs set for Wednesday
CLEMSON — There are still 84 other players and at least a dozen games to wade through first, but as college football season ticks closer and closer, two more Clemson defenders are on a preseason watch list for another prestigious national award.
On Monday, the Maxwell Football Club named defensive tackles Dexter Lawrence and Christian Wilkins early candidates for the Bednarik Award, presented each year to college football's defensive player of the year since 1995.

Alabama defensive lineman Allen wins Bednarik Award
ATLANTA (AP) — Alabama defensive end Jonathan Allen has claimed the Chuck Bednarik Award as the top defensive player in college football.
The other finalists Thursday night were Myles Garrett of Texas A&M and Jabrill Peppers of Michigan.
Allen became the first player from Alabama to win the Bednarik Award. He already won another award as the nation's best defensive player, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy.

Former Eagles coach Marion Campbell dies at 87
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Former Eagles coach Marion Campbell, who played on Philadelphia's last NFL championship team in 1960, has died. He was 87.
The team announced late Sunday that Campbell died Wednesday in Plano, Texas. Campbell, a two-way player and two-time Pro Bowl pick, played for the Eagles from 1956-61. He spent his first two NFL seasons with San Francisco.
Campbell, nicknamed "Swamp Fox," served as defensive coordinator under Dick Vermeil from 1977-82. He...
