GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — United States defender Matt Polster has joined Scottish club Rangers from the Chicago Fire.
The 25-year-old Polster has signed a 2½-year deal with the Glasgow club, which is managed by former England captain Steven Gerrard.
Rangers is second in the league, three points behind Glasgow rival Celtic, which has U.S. forward Timothy Weah on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
US national player Keaton Parks joins NYC FC from Benfica
NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. national player Keaton Parks has been acquired by New York City FC on loan from the Portuguese club Benfica for the 2019 season.
The 21-year-old Texan is a versatile central midfielder. He joined Varzim of Portugal in 2015 when he turned 18 and then signed with Benfica in 2017.
He made his national team debut in May, entering in the 62nd minute of a 3-0 victory over Bolivia in Philadelphia.
Goalie Zack Steffen voted USSF male player of 2018
CHICAGO (AP) — Goalkeeper Zack Steffen was voted the U.S. Soccer Federation's Male Player of the Year for 2018, the first year since 1987 the Americans did not play a competitive match.
Steffen received 44 percent of the votes, followed by midfielders Tyler Adams (38 percent) and Weston McKennie (16 percent), the USSF said Tuesday.
Berhalter hired as US soccer coach after World Cup failure
Gregg Berhalter was hired Sunday to coach the U.S. men's national team, making him the first person to run the Americans after playing for them at the World Cup.
