Loyola-Chicago tops Drake, grabs 1st place in MVC
CHICAGO (AP) — Marques Townes poured in a career-high 32 points and added eight rebounds and five assists to propel Loyola-Chicago to an 86-64 romp over Drake on Tuesday night.
Townes hit 11 of 18 shots, including all four of his 3-pointers, and sank 6 of 6 free throws as the Ramblers (15-9, 8-3) grabbed sole possession of first place in the Missouri Valley Conference after Valparaiso hit the road and upset the previous leader Illinois State 69-53.
Balanced Loyola-Chicago rolls past Valparaiso 71-54
CHICAGO (AP) — Aher Uguak, Cameron Krutwig and Cooper Kaifes each scored 12 points and Loyola-Chicago beat Valparaiso 71-54 on Tuesday night.
Loyola-Chicago (11-7, 4-1) rebounded from a 67-48 loss at Evansville in their last outing, and is now tied atop the Missouri Valley Conference standings with the Crusaders (11-7, 4-1), who had its five-game win streak snapped.
Loyola-Chicago rolls past D-III Benedictine 75-47
CHICAGO (AP) — Cameron Krutwig scored 18 points and Loyola-Chicago rolled to a 75-47 victory over Division III Benedictine on Tuesday night.
It was the second-straight blowout win for Loyola-Chicago (7-5), which beat Norfolk State 80-49 on Sunday following a 55-41 loss at then-No. 23 Maryland on Dec. 8.
Krutwig was 8 of 10 from the field. Clayton Custer added 11 points and seven assists, and Franklin Agunanne chipped in with a career-best 10 points for the Ramblers.
Custer hits 7 3-pointers, Loyola Chicago whips Norfolk 80-49
CHICAGO (AP) — Clayton Custer scored 21 points on 7-of-9 long-range shooting and Loyola Chicago used a dominant first half to defeat Norfolk State 80-49 on Sunday.
Custer hit four treys and was one of three players in double figures as the Ramblers (6-5) shot 65 percent and rolled to a 46-15 lead at the half. Loyola used runs of 11-0, 12-0 and 8-0 to outscore the Spartans, who shot 22 percent, 31-4 over the last 12 minutes.
Loyola Chicago beats crosstown rival UIC 73-64
CHICAGO (AP) — Clayton Custer, Cameron Krutwig, and Marques Townes each scored 16 points and Loyola Chicago rolled to a 73-64 victory over Illinois-Chicago on Saturday.
Loyola Chicago (5-3) broke a two-game skid that included a 79-65 loss to No. 5 Nevada, and has won six straight and 11 of 12 against crosstown rival UIC (3-5).
Custer was 7-of-13 shooting, and Townes and Krutwig each made six field goals. Cooper Kaifes chipped in 12 points for the Ramblers, who shot 57 percent from the floor.
Williamson, Townes lead Loyola-Chicago past Richmond 82-66
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Lucas Williamson had 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting and Marques Townes scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half to help Loyola-Chicago beat Richmond 82-66 on Monday night at the Fort Myers Tip-Off.
Clayton Custer added 13 points, Isaiah Bujdoso scored 11 and Cameron Krutwig had nine points and eight rebounds for Loyola (4-1).
