Former university student sentenced to 4 years in shooting
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — A former Western Kentucky University student has been sentenced to four years in prison for fatally shooting another student.
The Daily News reports a judge called the case an "unspeakable tragedy" as he handed down the sentence on Wednesday for 22-year-old Peter G. Gall of Frankfort.

Police ID body of woman found at dumpsite 33 years ago
CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say DNA testing has confirmed the identity of a body found in a refrigerator at a dumpsite 33 years ago.
Police say in a statement that Espy Regina Black-Pilgrim from Spindale, North Carolina, was the woman found in Knox County in 1985.
Woman accused of faking own kidnapping, sending ransom notes
CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky woman has been accused of staging her own kidnapping and sending her father fake ransom notes demanding $400.
News outlets report 19-year-old Abbygail Farley's father had reported her missing. Court documents say he received text messages Tuesday from her phone and another number saying she was abducted.
LONDON, Ky. (AP) — Police in Kentucky say two people have been arrested on criminal abuse charges after their young daughter was found with infected cigarette burns on her body.
News outlets report 26-year-old Thomas Lee Tallon and 26-year-old Jessica Mae Sams, both of Corbin, were arrested Friday night.

Man charged in the shooting deaths of 3 people, unborn child
CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky man is charged with four counts of murder in the shooting deaths of three people and an unborn child.
News outlets report 37-year-old Paul Brock was arrested Sunday and arraigned Tuesday in the deaths of 74-year-old Mary Jackson, her pregnant granddaughter, 33-year-old Tiffany Myers, and Myers' husband, 45-year-old Aaron Byers.
Corbin police found Jackson and Myers shot to death at a home Saturday. Lt. Coy Wilson says Myers' brother escaped the home and called police.
IRONTON — An Ironton woman was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison in a drug case, according to Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson.
Kentucky man convicted of ordering hit on 4 people from jail
CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky man has been convicted of ordering a hit on two prosecutors and two ex-girlfriends from jail.
A news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Eastern District of Kentucky says 55-year-old William Timothy Sutton was convicted of four counts of interstate murder-for-hire and one count of possession of firearms by a convicted felon on Tuesday.
Corbin man charged after woman, baby held against their will
LONDON, Ky. (AP) — A woman pointed a pistol at a Corbin man accused of holding her and her 3-month-old baby against their will early Tuesday, authorities said.
The woman stopped on US 25W just after midnight to ask another woman if she needed a ride when 35-year-old James William Moore entered the vehicle, the Laurel County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post.
Florida man injured in police chase, shootout in Kentucky
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida man was injured in a police chase in Kentucky that ended in a shootout and crash.
Kentucky State Police told news outlets a trooper and Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife official tried to pull 28-year-old Earl Reynolds III of Apopka, Florida, over Tuesday afternoon, leading to a chase that looped on interstates into Corbin and Williamsburg.
Sheriff: Man robbed at gunpoint after setting up online date
CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky man says he was robbed by four men after setting up a date with a woman online.
News outlets report the 23-year-old man told Whitley County sheriff's deputies that four men burst through his door shortly after his date arrived Monday night. The victim says the men dragged him back inside after he ran out the back door and robbed him at gunpoint.
Sheriff Colan Harrell says a PlayStation 4, $400 in cash, a revolver, an Apple iPhone and a .22 rifle were taken.

News outlets report the Laurel County Sheriff's Office says 40-year-old Vera Wooten poured gasoline on her husband and set him ablaze following a fight at their home in Corbin Monday night. Deputies say she then drove him to a hospital for treatment.
Former Kentucky player Jerry Bird dies
CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — Former Kentucky basketball player Jerry Bird, who was a member of the school's Athletics Hall of Fame and had his No. 22 jersey retired to the Rupp Arena rafters, has died.
An obituary posted by O'Neil-Lawson Funeral Home says Bird died Sunday at a hospital in Corbin. He was 83.
CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say a 47-year-old man has been charged in the slayings of two people found dead inside a Whitley County home.
Police said the bodies were found after police were called about a possible shooting around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in Corbin.
A news release from state police said Paul E. Parsons of Corbin was charged with two counts of murder and one count of first-degree burglary and lodged in the Whitley County jail.
SUV going wrong way hits car in Kentucky, 2 killed
LONDON, Ky. (AP) — Police say two people have died after an SUV traveling the wrong way collided with a car in Kentucky.
Media outlets report the head-on accident happened Sunday night just north of London. The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says in a statement that the SUV was traveling the wrong way on state Route 30. The accident remains under investigation.
McConnell: Federal job creation agency won’t be cut
CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he'll fight a proposal to eliminate a 52-year-old federal agency that seeks to create jobs.
McConnell told WYMT-TV (http://bit.ly/2mIdsId) Saturday that he's opposed to the proposal to do away with the Appalachian Regional Commission, which is contained in President Donald Trump's budget for Fiscal 2018.
In fact, McConnell said, "We are not going to allow any cuts" to the commission.

Whitley County Jailer Brian Lawson says 54-year-old William T. Sutton, of Corbin, was recorded trying to hire someone to kill four people.

Back in 1930, Harland Sanders opened a service station for travelers in Corbin, Kentucky, off the new Dixie Highway, which ran from Cleveland, Ohio, to Miami. Sanders served food in the back of the service station and it became so popular that he opened the Sanders Cafe in 1937.

CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — Police in Laurel County say a Corbin man has been arrested after his young child was found outside his home wearing only a diaper in 22-degree conditions.
Media outlets report 32-year-old Joshua Feltner was charged with wanton endangerment and public intoxication Saturday night.
