Boilermakers, Badgers hope to rebound following losses
Purdue coach Jeff Brohm has marveled at David Blough's resilience.
During his first two seasons in West Lafayette, Brohm watched his quarterback rebound from frustrating performances, demoralizing injuries and the loss of his starting job. Gashed by long gains, Minnesota D seeks rebound vs. Purdue
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Favorable field position has meant little for Minnesota this season, as huge gains against the Gophers have piled up as if opponents are playing a video game.
This will be an especially difficult week for the defense to try to stem this tide of long touchdowns, with Purdue's offense possessing as much quick-strike ability as any team in the Big Ten.
Purdue returns to cleanup mode after winning streak ends
Purdue had all the answers for four glorious weeks.
Quarterback David Blough played impeccably, the defense proved it could go toe to toe against some of the nation's top teams and everybody made an impact in the Boilermakers' success.
It all went wrong last weekend against Michigan State, forcing coach Jeff Brohm to go back on cleanup duty. The Spartans held the ball more than 38 minutes, preventing the Boilermakers from getting into any kind of offensive rhythm.
Michigan State halts Purdue’s run, 23-13
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Rocky Lombardi made his first start at quarterback for Michigan State, and the Spartans didn't hold back.
Lombardi threw for 318 yards and two touchdowns, and the Spartans halted Purdue's four-game win streak, beating the Boilermakers 23-13 on Saturday. With Brian Lewerke out with a shoulder injury, Lombardi guided the offense, and the redshirt freshman attempted 46 passes.
No. 2 Ohio State stumbles at Purdue, gets blown out 49-20
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Jeff Brohm decided to go for it against No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday.

D.J. Knox ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns, David Blough threw for three more scores and the Boilermakers held Ohio State's vaunted passing game in check most of the night as they pulled away for a 49-20 upset to shake up the College Football Playoff chase.
No. 6 Michigan needs to beat No. 24 Spartans to keep rolling
Here's what to watch in the Big Ten this week:
Blough’s resurgence has Purdue in position to make a charge
Purdue quarterback David Blough never lost his faith.
While being whisked away in an ambulance with a gruesome ankle injury last November, he kept telling himself he'd make it back. When Blough did limited work at spring practice, he insisted his quick recovery would help him reclaim the starting job. And when he was eventually beaten out by Elijah Sindelar in August, he kept preparing for his next big chance.
The Boilermakers' fifth-year senior has become the team's inspirational role model.
Purdue rolls over Illinois 46-7
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Purdue rolled over Illinois 46-7 on Saturday, dampening the Illini homecoming festivities and dimming their postseason hopes.
Illinois (3-3, 1-2 Big Ten) arguably played its worst game of the year. Purdue (3-3, 2-1) scored 46 unanswered points after the first series. Illinois began the game scoring on a five-yard keeper by quarterback AJ Bush following a 52-yard pass to Reggie Corbin.
Purdue wins 42-28, sends Huskers to record 8th loss in row
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Even as badly as Nebraska is playing right now, a win over the Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium is always cause for celebration.
That was especially true for Purdue, which beat the Huskers 42-28 on Saturday for its second straight win after an 0-3 start.
Haskins, Blough lead accurate B1G passers
The Big Ten has been home to some of the nation's most accurate passers so far in 2018 — a small group that's been full of surprises.
Four of the 18 quarterbacks nationally who've completed at least 70 percent of their throws are from the Big Ten, by far the best ratio in the county.
Relieved Boilermakers ready to go with Blough at quarterback
David Blough waited his turn at Purdue.
Now, he's re-entrenched himself as the No. 1 quarterback.
Two days after Purdue's first win of the season, coach Jeff Brohm broke away from his typical early week silence and told reporters Blough would start Saturday at Nebraska regardless of whether Elijah Sindelar plays.
Moore, Purdue hand No. 23 Boston College 1st loss, 30-13
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue coach Jeff Brohm wants losing to hurt his players so much it makes them angry.
After three straight close losses to start the season, the Boilermakers let off some steam on No. 23 Boston College.
Rondale Moore caught two touchdown passes and Purdue had four interceptions, beating the Eagles 30-13 on Saturday.
Purdue keeping QB choice under wraps before Northwestern
Purdue coach Jeff Brohm made his quarterback decision clear weeks ago.
Those who know won't talk, and those who talk say they don't really know who Brohm intends to start in Thursday night's season opener at home against Northwestern.
Brohm wants to keep everyone, especially the Wildcats, guessing.
Purdue QBs resume battle after returning from injuries

He's happy to be back for his fifth and final season with the Boilermakers following an offseason full of questions, rehab and uncertainty. He's thrilled to have one more chance to lead his teammates in whatever capacity it might be. And he's eager to reclaim the starting job he's held for the last 2½ seasons.
Right leg injury sidelines Purdue QB David Blough for season
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue junior quarterback David Blough is out for the rest of the season following a severe injury to his right leg during a win against Illinois over the weekend.
Blough suffered a dislocated ankle, a small break in the fibula and ligament damage with 12:27 remaining in Saturday's 29-10 victory. Coach Jeff Brohm said Blough will have surgery on Tuesday and will be out six to nine months.
Purdue defense stifles Illinois
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Sometimes, college football victories have a bittersweet angle.
Such is the case for Purdue after snapping a three-game losing streak Saturday with a 29-10 victory against Illinois in Ross-Ade Stadium.
Junior quarterback David Blough, who led the Big Ten in passing in 2016 and was 16 of 24 for 194 yards against the Illini, suffered a severe and likely season-ending leg injury with 12:27 remaining when tackled by free safety Stanley Green inside the Illinois 5-yard line.
Purdue hoping Blough or Sindelar emerge as QB
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue's offense is floundering in Big Ten Conference play, and coach Jeff Brohm would like to see junior quarterback David Blough or redshirt sophomore Elijah Sindelar emerge as a clear starter.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Purdue quarterback David Blough started his first game of the season Saturday against Missouri. He played like he never wants to give up the role.
Blough led the Boilermakers to touchdowns on their first three drives in a 35-3 victory.
"David played very well. He was very efficient," Purdue coach Jeff Brohm said. "Made plays, made some plays with his feet, didn't turn the ball over. I see improvement."
UPDATED, 4:40 p.m.
COLUMBIA, MO. • If Missouri’s going to turn around a season that appears to be teetering off a cliff, the Tigers better hope they just played their worst half of the season.
Blough leads Purdue past Ohio for Brohm’s 1st program win
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — When Jeff Brohm left Western Kentucky for a struggling Purdue program, he promised to bring an entertaining, high-scoring offense to a Boilermaker team that was 9-39 during the past four seasons.
Brohm didn't disappoint Friday night during his first home game, watching the new-look Boilermakers amass 558 yards.
David Blough led Purdue on a 24-0 first-half run and the Boilermakers pulled away for a 44-21 victory over Ohio for Brohm's first program victory.
Injured Purdue QB Blough questionable for No. 16 Louisville
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — No. 16 Louisville will have reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson at quarterback for Saturday night's opener against Purdue in Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Boilermakers may be making a game-time decision on their starter.
Purdue quarterback David Blough earned raves for his speech during last week's Big Ten media days.
Around campus, his carefully crafted words struck a different chord.
As teammates and coaches listened to the junior quarterback champion diversity and encourage college football players to use their sport to learn life's lessons and to use their platform to help others, it reinforced their image of their designated locker room leader.
Ground game drives Minnesota to 44-31 win over Purdue

Line: Penn State by 11½.
Series Record: Penn State leads 13-3-1.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
With Penn State suddenly in the mix for the Big Ten East title, it cannot afford to follow its biggest win of James Franklin's tenure by slipping on the road. Purdue interim coach Gerad Parker is looking to build some momentum after a better-than-expected performance in last weekend's loss at No. 7 Nebraska.
Purdue hoping improving ground game gets Iowa off track
Coach Darrell Hazell may have found another piece to Purdue's puzzle.
Now that he has settled on a quarterback, he's developing the rest of Boilermakers' backfield — just in time to host defending Big Ten West Division champion Iowa on Saturday. The results look promising.
Blough throws for 300 yards, 2 TDs; Purdue tops Nevada 24-14
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — For Purdue sophomores David Blough and Markell Jones, Saturday's 24-14 come-from-behind victory against Nevada was all about redemption.
Blough threw an interception during the game's opening series that the Wolf Pack converted into a touchdown and Jones lost two opening-half fumbles, one of which was converted into a touchdown.
But Blough threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns, and Jones had a go-ahead score in the third quarter as Purdue rallied to win.
Purdue hoping bye week helps find solutions for Nevada
Purdue coach Darrell Hazell knows his team must find solutions.
The Boilermakers' defense can't continue struggling to get off the field on third down. It can't continue to let opponents run for 4.7 yards per carry, and Purdue certainly can't afford to have David Blough throw five interceptions.
So after spending the bye week seeking answers, Hazell expects to see some changes Saturday against Nevada.
"You can't let one game turn into two games of doing those things," Hazell said.
Moore leads Cincinnati over Purdue 38-20
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Tommy Tuberville was a 3-year-old the last time Cincinnati won a road game against a Big Ten Conference opponent, defeating Indiana in 1957 in Bloomington.
Tuberville, who will celebrate his 62nd birthday on Sept. 18, got an early present Saturday when the Bearcats dominated Purdue, 38-20 in Ross-Ade Stadium.
Purdue trying to find right balance against Cincinnati
Purdue's balancing act made a good first impression.
Now the Boilermakers are looking to keep everything in synch.
One week after nine different receivers caught passes in a win against Eastern Kentucky and Purdue had an almost perfect 50-50 split between yards rushing and yards, it will get a chance to see how well the new, simplified offense does against a stronger opponent in Cincinnati.
Boilermakers hoping early season success jump-starts program
Purdue coach Darrell Hazell understands the stakes.
He's changed both coordinators, simplified the offense to make it better suited for quarterback David Blough and has seen the athletic department offer creative ticket packages to attract bigger crowds to Ross-Ade Stadium. The missing element, of course, is winning games — something Hazell expects to change quickly in 2016.
"It's important for this team to get off to a good start," he said Sunday. "If we do,...
Purdue looks to improve offense with new coordinator
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — A streamlined play book has Purdue optimistic heading into what looks to be a make-or-break season for coach Darrell Hazell.
As the Boilermakers evaluated what went wrong during a 2-10 season, one of the issues was a complicated offense installed by coordinator John Shoop. So Hazell fired Shoop, and moved up Terry Malone, who had come to Purdue last season from the New Orleans Saints.
