WASHINGTON — When the government shuts down, many federal employees have to figure out how to get by without a paycheck.
But not members of Congress. Their salaries — currently $174,000 for rank-and-file members — are guaranteed.
A couple of Rep. David Young’s constituents questioned the fairness of that during a telephone town hall that the Iowa Republican held Saturday.
Young told them that he agreed that lawmakers should not be paid until the shutdown ends.
2 men arrested in Ohio in deaths of elderly Missouri couple
ELLINGTON, Mo. (AP) — A southern Missouri prosecutor will seek the death penalty against two men accused of killing an elderly couple during a robbery, he said Monday.
Timothy Callahan, 44, of Farmington, Missouri, and David Young, 67, of Ironton, Missouri, were arrested Saturday without incident at a motel in Deerfield Township, Ohio, near Cincinnati. Both were charged with two counts each of first-degree murder.
