MILWAUKEE (AP) — Neither Jesus Aguilar nor Bud Norris wanted to let their team down.
Aguilar succeeded twice.
Aguilar homered to break up rookie Jack Flaherty's no-hit bid in the seventh inning, then homered again in the ninth to lift the Milwaukee Brewers over the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 on Friday night.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have selected the contract of utility player Nick Franklin from Double-A Biloxi, sending infielder Eric Sogard to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Milwaukee also transferred Stephen Vogt to the 60-day disabled list after the catcher suffered a setback in his comeback from a right shoulder injury.
But the bullpen could get All-Star closer Corey Knebel back from a left hamstring injury. He has been sidelined since early April.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Eric Sogard and Domingo Santana got Ryan Braun a chance, and he delivered.
Braun hit a tiebreaking two-run double with two out in the eighth inning, helping the Milwaukee Brewers top the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 on Saturday night.
Braun, who entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh, drove a pitch from George Kontos (2-3) to the center-field wall to score Santana and Sogard. Braun got a chance to bat after Kontos walked Sogard, batting .105, on four pitches.
Darvish rebounds as Cubs beat Brewers 3-2
CHICAGO (AP) — Yu Darvish pitched up to the Chicago Cubs' expectations.
The $126 million free agent addition bounced back from a pair of poor outings to allow only an unearned run over six innings in a 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
"This is certainly a confidence booster and I'll keep going," Darvish said through a translator.
Addison Russell scored the go-ahead run on shortstop Eric Sogard's seventh-inning error.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Greg Holland's debut for the St. Louis Cardinals was a dud.
Holland walked four batters in the 10th inning and forced home the go-ahead run Monday night that gave the Milwaukee Brewers a 5-4 win over the Cardinals.
"It's hard to walk four guys and consider it a success," Holland said. "I struggled with my command. I felt good and just put myself in a tough spot.
"There's really no excuse for walking four guys in a row," he said.
It’s a hit! Brewers re-enact ‘The Sandlot’ in video
PHOENIX (AP) — Even before the start of the season, the Milwaukee Brewers have their first hit.
Milwaukee released a 2-minute, 35-second video celebrating the 25th anniversary of the movie "The Sandlot" last weekend, featuring Brewers players dressed as characters from the film reciting the movie's lines.
The Milwaukee Brewers continued their knack for getting timely hits in Cactus League play on Tuesday in a 6-3 victory against the Cincinnati Reds at Maryvale Baseball Park.
Eric Sogard drove in two runs with a fourth-inning triple off left-hander Dario Alvarez and the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Chicago Cubs 2-1 in the teams’ exhibition opener Friday at Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix.
Pitcher Chase Anderson agrees to $11.75M deal with Brewers
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Right-hander Chase Anderson and the Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to an $11.75 million, two-year contract, a deal that includes a pair of club options and could be worth $31.85 million over four seasons.
In addition, infielder Eric Sogard and the Brewers have agreed to a $2.4 million, one-year deal.
General manager David Stearns said Thursday that Anderson showed last season he has the "capability to lead the rotation."
Sogard, Brewers agree to $2.4 million,1-year contract

Sogard, who had been eligible to become a free agent after the World Series, can earn $650,000 in performance bonuses based on games played: $150,000 each for 30, 50, 70 and 90, and $50,000 for 120.
General manager David Stearns said Thursday that Sogard provides a veteran presence, can play several positions and get on base often.

A look at what's happening all around the majors Friday:
Brewers win 6-5 on wild pitch in 10th to snap losing streak
MILWAUKEE (AP) — For the slumping Milwaukee Brewers, winning on a wild pitch felt just as good as a home run.
Eric Sogard scampered home with the winning run on Tim Adleman's pitch that got away in the bottom of the 10th inning and the Brewers snapped a six-game losing streak with a 6-5 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday night.
Brewers’ Shaw injured by throw
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Travis Shaw left Saturday night's game in the second inning after being struck on the side of his face by a throw on a stolen base attempt.
Shaw walked off the field under his own power after lying on the ground for several seconds and being attended by trainers. Hernan Perez ran for him and replaced him at third base.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Eric Thames would like to erase the last six weeks from his memory.
The Milwaukee Brewers infielder took a big step in that direction on Wednesday. Thames homered and drove in three runs, Matt Garza pitched five innings in his first start after a short stint on the disabled list, and the Brewers held on to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-6.
Eric Sogard added a two-run double to lead a four-run second inning as Milwaukee improved to 18-13 on the road.
PHOENIX (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have placed second baseman Jonathan Villar on the 10-day disabled list with a back strain.
Villar was injured in the eighth inning of Friday night's 8-6 victory over Arizona when he made a diving stop of Chris Herrmann's grounder and threw the runner out.
He had to be carted off the field. Manager Craig Counsell said X-rays were negative.
NEW YORK (AP) — So much has gone right for Eric Sogard and the Milwaukee Brewers this season, they naturally thought they'd caught yet another break on a bizarre play.
A bat boy bumping into a third baseman? Who's ever seen that?
"Not me, obviously," Sogard said Thursday after the surprise NL Central leaders beat the New York Mets 2-1.
The Brewers didn't benefit for long, at least not this time.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Chase Anderson's smile following a near no-hitter barely masked what it meant to perform well against the Diamondbacks franchise that decided to move him.
"I knew those guys as friends, as the team that traded you away," Anderson said. "You always have a little bit of a chip on your shoulder, you want to make them second guess that trade."
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Nick Ahmed singled off the glove of second baseman Eric Sogard and into center field leading off the eighth inning, the first hit for the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Milwaukee Brewers' Chase Anderson on Saturday.
Sogard was shifted to the first-base side but raced to the left side of second to try for the grounder. On Aug. 16, 2015, Ahmed blooped a single to right-center leading off the eighth for the Diamondbacks' first hit against Atlanta's Shelby Miller.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Eric Sogard reached San Diego and all but grabbed a surfboard.
"You just got to try and ride the wave," the shortstop said.
Sogard had his second four-hit game in three days and drove in three runs, leading the Milwaukee Brewers over the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Thursday.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Eric Sogard is making the most of the second chance he's been given after injuries have sidelined some key members of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Sogard had a career-high four hits and drove in a run, and Jimmy Nelson struck out eight in six-plus innings and hit an RBI single to help the Brewers beat the San Diego Padres 6-2 on Tuesday night.
SAN DIEGO — Hunter Renfroe hit a two-run homer with no outs in the 10th inning to give the San Diego Padres a 6-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.
Renfroe’s homer to left, his seventh, came off Oliver Drake (2-1) with Erick Aybar aboard on a leadoff single.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Matt Harvey allowed a season-high three homers. He tied a season high by giving up five walks. He said he fell behind too many hitters.
It was not an ideal return for Harvey from a three-game suspension in the New York Mets' 7-4 loss on Friday night to the Milwaukee Brewers.
But after a drama-filled week, the Mets can take a little solace from a few positives in Harvey's otherwise choppy night.
Brewers add infielder Eric Sogard, left-hander Tommy Milone
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Former Oakland infielder Eric Sogard has agreed to a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers and will attend major league spring training.
Sogard hit .247 with one homer and 37 RBIs in 120 games for Athletics this year and stole six bases in seven attempts.
