The last time the Detroit Lions drafted a guard in the first round, it didn't go so well. But that shouldn't prevent the team from going that route again if they believe they can land the right fit.
That's what ESPN analyst Todd McShay has the team doing with the No. 20 selection in his latest mock draft, slotting Georgia's Isaiah Wynn to the Lions.
McShay notes Detroit's bigger need for a defensive end, but believes any of the talent still on the board in his projection would be a reach.
It's the beginning of mock draft season and ESPN's Mel Kiper has released first. In a sight that should become somewhat familiar until free agency, at the very least, he has the Detroit Lions addressing the defensive line with the No. 20 selection.
Kiper slots Ohio State defensive end Sam Hubbard to the Lions in that spot.
Ranking in the back half in the NFL in sacks this season, and with one of their top pass rushers poised to hit free agency, the Detroit Lions appear to have a pass-rush problem.
ESPN's Todd McShay sees them addressing it in April's NFL draft.
The NFL draft analyst has the Lions taking Virginia Tech defensive end/linebacker Tremaine Edmunds at No. 18 overall in his first mock draft, posted Wednesday (pay site).
