Goffin was down 5-1 in the second set before recovering to reach the third round for the second consecutive year in Barcelona.

Davis Cup: Germany beats Spain in doubles, leads 2-1
VALENCIA, Spain (AP) — Germany pair Tim Puetz and Jan-Lennard Struff held off Spain's Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez to win 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (4), 7-5 and take a 2-1 lead in their Davis Cup quarterfinal on Saturday.
Puetz served out the final game of the doubles rubber after 4 hours, 40 minutes on the outdoor clay court in Valencia's bullring.

Nadal to return for Spain against Germany in Davis Cup
MADRID (AP) — Rafael Nadal could soon be making his return from injury after being included on Spain's team for the Davis Cup quarterfinals against Germany next month.
Nadal hasn't played since January, when a muscle injury in his left leg forced him to retire in the Australian Open quarterfinals.
Spain captain Sergi Bruguera, however, said they would see how Nadal's recovery goes before making a final decision on if he will play.

ACAPULCO, Mexico (AP) — Rafael Nadal's comeback from a hip injury is on hold after the second-ranked Spaniard pulled out of the Mexican Open, saying he needs more time to recover.
Nadal was forced to retire during the Australian Open quarterfinals and hasn't played since. He was set to play Feliciano Lopez in his opening match on Wednesday but said he felt pain during his final training session on Tuesday.

Organizers say the No. 4-ranked Djokovic has accepted a wildcard into the main draw.
It will be the first time Djokovic has played a grass-court event between the French Open and Wimbledon since 2010. He is coming off a surprise straight-set loss to Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Albert Montanes defeated Spanish countryman Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-4, 6-4 in the Barcelona Open on Monday to begin his final ATP tournament.
The 36-year-old Montanes announced last week he will retire after nearly 20 years on tour when he's knocked out of Barcelona, where he lives. He beat Goran Ivanisevic on debut, and his best result was the semifinals in 2004. He won six ATP titles and was ranked a career-best 22 in 2010.
