OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Fifteen years later, the decision to fire Frank Solich after he won 75 percent of his games in six seasons at Nebraska still stirs debate among Cornhuskers fans.
Solich had kept a low profile when he came back to the state to see family and friends over the years, and he never said much publicly about getting let go.
Ohio wins Frisco Bowl for Solich, oldest head coach in FBS
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Ohio running back A.J. Ouellette doesn't think of Frank Solich as the oldest head coach in FBS. He sees him as the guy who stuck around a smaller program long enough to run it for going on 15 years.
Ouellette gave Solich and the Bobcats a little something to build on in his final game.

Cutcliffe has Duke bowl eligible again
David Cutcliffe has turned Duke into postseason regular.
The Blue Devils are bowl eligible for the sixth time in seven seasons after beating Miami on Saturday. This is Duke's 11th season under Cutcliffe. Before he arrived, Duke's last bowl appearance was during the 1994 season.

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Ohio coach Frank Solich knew his Bobcats were better than their record showed. You'll get no argument from UAB.
Dorian Brown rushed for 152 yards on just 12 carries and scored four touchdowns, Nathan Rourke threw for two scores and Ohio beat UAB 41-6 in the Bahamas Bowl on Friday.
It was a stirring comeback for the Bobcats, who lost their last two games of the regular season to miss a shot at the Mid-American Conference title.
Rouke’s 6 TDs carry Ohio plays Miami 45-28
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Nathan Rourke threw for three touchdowns and ran for three more, and Ohio pulled away to defeat rival Miami 45-28 on Tuesday night in the 94th Battle of the Bricks.
Rourke completed 21 of 33 passes for 294 yards and ran 10 times for 54 yards as the Bobcats (7-2, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) improved to 11-2 in the rivalry game under Frank Solich after winning just 29 before his arrival.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Ohio coach Frank Solich has received a healthy assortment of bowl mementoes during his coaching and playing career. Troy's Neal Brown is just starting to build his own collection.
The Bobcats' veteran leads his team against the Trojans and their 36-year-old coach in Friday night's Dollar General Bowl. It's the first bowl game for Brown as a head coach and Troy's first since 2010.

WHAT'S AT STAKE

Now the longtime coach of Ohio, Solich spent six years running Nebraska's juggernaut in the 1990s and early 2000s. He never lost to the Jayhawks, spanking them by an average margin of 40-9.
Things may be a bit tighter when his Bobcats visit Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
