Nebraska commission considers historical horse race betting
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska commission will consider approving a race track's request to allow wagering on historical horse races, even as the state attorney general challenges its legality.
The Nebraska Racing Commission this week revisited a request from Fonner Park in Grand Island to allow historical horse racing, which allows gamblers to bet on previously run races, though the identities of horses and riders are changed.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey gambling regulators are looking into a sports betting tournament held over the weekend in which some competitors were unable to make bets on an NFL playoff game, costing them a shot at a $1 million top prize.

Jets, MGM Resorts announce gaming deal partnership
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets and MGM Resorts International have agreed on a multiyear deal that is the first of its kind in the NFL.
With the announcement Wednesday, MGM Resorts is now the official gaming partner of the Jets. The agreement is the most comprehensive and integrated gaming partnership in the league, and the first to go beyond a casino sponsorship.
Illinois lawmaker works on sports gambling bill
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A bill to legalize sports gambling in Illinois likely won't be put before the General Assembly until next year, according to a state lawmaker.
Albania to relocate casinos, betting shops to city outskirts
TIRANA, Albania (AP) — Albania's government says it will relocate all casinos and betting shops out of residential areas to curb their spread, especially in the capital Tirana.
Prime Minister Edi Rama said Tuesday that by Dec. 31 all casinos, including shops taking bets on sports and animal races, will need to be closed and move to city outskirts.
City streets in Albania, one of the poorest countries in Europe, are filled with sport betting shops.

Mississippi says $9.8 million wagered on sports in 1st month
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi officials say gamblers bet $9.8 million on sporting events from Aug. 1 through Labor Day.
State Gaming Commission Director Allen Godfrey says that's the total amount bet in the first 34 days of wagering in Mississippi.
Casinos earn about 5 percent off bets, and Mississippi gets an 8 percent tax on the casino's take.
Groups seek again to legalize casinos at Nebraska tracks
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Groups that want to legalize casinos at Nebraska horse racing tracks are teaming up for another effort.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's chief gambling regulator says three of the state's 15 riverboat casinos have indicated interest in moving their properties onshore, under a law passed earlier this year.
Ronnie Jones, chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, said Monday the rules allowing riverboats to move onto land will be ready by year's end.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Add Resorts casino to the list of gambling companies that want to offer sports betting in New Jersey by the time football season starts in September.
Casino President Mark Giannantonio told The Associated Press on Tuesday his company met the deadline by the state Division of Gaming Enforcement to apply for sports betting this fall.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey regulators have received five additional applications from gambling companies seeking to start offering sports betting before football season starts in September.
David Rebuck, director of the state Division of Gaming Enforcement, told The Associated Press that his agency received two new applications from brick-and-mortar facilities, and three applications for mobile sports betting by a deadline he set of Monday evening.
Colombian tennis player Robert Farah has been banned for three months and fined $5,000 for facilitating betting by promoting a gambling website on social media.
However, tennis authorities say Friday he is free to play during the three months provided there are "no further breaches", adding the "full period of ineligibility is suspended."
Massachusetts casino to have free parking
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The nearly $1 billion casino opening in Massachusetts next month will have free parking.
A spokesman for MGM Springfield tells The Republican newspaper the casino's seven-story, roughly 3,400-space parking garage will be free not just to patrons but to the general public. The spokesman says more details, including a garage opening date, are forthcoming.
TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — A terminally ill New Jersey man who fulfilled one of his last wishes by making a trip to his favorite Atlantic City casino last week has died.
John Mudry died Monday at a nursing home in Toms River. Family members say he had been diagnosed with a rare form of non-treatable bladder cancer.
Mudry's death came nearly a week after he and his family visited Bally's Atlantic City so the 71-year-old retired Teamster could drink a cold beer and play a few hands of blackjack.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — People are winning and losing money again for the first time in years at two Atlantic City casinos that had been shut down.
Monday marked the first day of so-called "soft play" at the Ocean Resort Casino and the Hard Rock. The testing period is designed to see how the casinos' equipment and technology systems work before the full grand openings for both facilities on Thursday.
TUNICA, Miss. (AP) — A new charter airline plans to begin shuttling gamblers to a Mississippi airport near Tunica casinos starting July 1.
The Tunica Convention and Visitors Bureau says Ashley Air and Travel will fly between the Tunica airport and Atlanta; Charlotte, North Carolina; Orlando, Florida; and St. Petersburg, Florida.
Each destination will be served with three weekly round trips.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Gamblers at MGM Springfield will be able to drink alcohol until 4 a.m.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission on Thursday approved extending alcohol service to those actively gambling on the casino's gaming floor. All other bars and restaurants on the 14-acre complex would still have to stop serving liquor by the traditional 2 a.m. cutoff.
