PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Claude Giroux capped the best season of his career in spectacular fashion.
Giroux earned his first career hat trick in the regular season and the Philadelphia Flyers clinched a playoff berth in their final regular-season game with a 5-0 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday.
Giroux finished with 34 goals and 102 points. He extended his career highs in points and goals while becoming the sixth player in franchise history to reach 100 points in a season.

"We desperately needed the two points and we played like we needed it," Simmonds said.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Steven Stamkos had two goals and three assists for a career-high five points and added a shootout goal in the Tampa Bay Lightning's 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
Brayden Point also scored in the shootout to help Tampa Bay improve to 6-0-1 in its past seven.
Victor Hedman had two goals and two assists and tied his career high with four points. Nikita Kucherov returned after missing two games because of an injury and added three assists.

Brandon Manning had a goal and two assists and Philadelphia earned its fifth consecutive victory in a 5-3 win over Ottawa on Saturday.
Claude Giroux, Ivan Provorov, Robert Hagg and Nolan Patrick also scored and Petr Mrazek made 25 saves in his second start for Philadelphia since being acquired in a trade with Detroit.
It's been an impressive couple of months for the Flyers, who were 28th overall Dec. 3.

Sam Reinhart lifts Sabres to 4-3 win over Islanders
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Sam Reinhart poked in a rebound with 4:14 left, and the Buffalo Sabres beat the New York Islanders 4-3 on Thursday night after squandering a three-goal lead.
Jack Eichel and Evan Rodrigues each had a goal and an assist for Buffalo, and Ryan O'Reilly also scored. Robin Lehner stopped 26 shots to help Buffalo salvage the finale of a five-game homestand after going 0-3-1 in its previous four games.

Ivan Provorov leads feisty Flyers to 6-4 win over Islanders
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Another listless performance led Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall to turn to the minors for what he called "needed energy."
The plan was foiled, though, by the East Coast snowstorm that stranded Tyrell Goulbourne in Toronto and put his NHL debut on hold.

DuBois scored his first shootout goal on his first attempt, lifting the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 2-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche stopped shooting pucks off the post and started firing shots off opponents.
It produced two goals and eventually a third straight victory.
The Avalanche got one goal off a Philadelphia skate and another off a Flyers stick in the second period, and then Mikko Rantanen scored the winner in the shootout in a 5-4 victory Saturday night.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Wayne Simmonds ended things quickly in overtime.
Simmonds scored 44 seconds into overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night.
The puck ricocheted off Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano skate and directly to the open Simmonds. He quickly gained control and snapped a shot past goalie John Gibson for the Flyers' second victory in three games.
"It's tough playing out west, there's a lot of big bodies," Simmonds said.

NEW YORK (AP) — Claude Giroux scored at 3:20 of overtime as the Philadelphia Flyers rallied to beat the Islanders 3-2 Sunday night to end New York's three-game winning streak.
Giroux's 11th goal of the season came on pass from defenseman Shayne Gostibehere from behind the net, giving the Flyers a much-needed win after trailing 2-0. Philadelphia 2as 3-9-3 in its previous 15 since a 10-game winning streak.

BOSTON (AP) — Brad Marchand was fortunate that the puck found its way into the net without him getting off a shot.
The way he's feeling now, it doesn't seem to matter.
Marchand had two goals — one short-handed, the other an empty-netter — and had three assists to lift the Boston Bruins to a 6-3 win over the slumping Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.

The 19-year-old rookies quickly followed the lead of Seth Jones and 2015 Calder Trophy winner Aaron Ekblad in adapting more quickly to the NHL than elite defensemen of previous generations. Adam Cracknell scored the tiebreaking goal on a rebound early in the third period to lead the Stars to a 3-1 victory Saturday, snapping the Flyers' 10-game win streak.
Radek Faksa and Jordie Benn also scored for the Stars and Antti Niemi stopped 31 shots, including three during a Flyers power play in the closing minutes.
Provorov scores 2, prevents 1 as Flyers beat Blackhawks 3-1
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Ivan Provorov admitted he was motivated to make his second career game against the Chicago Blackhawks a lot better than his first.
The 19-year-old rookie defenseman did just that, scoring twice and prevented one by the Blackhawks to help the Philadelphia Flyers beat Chicago 3-1 on Saturday.
Provorov was on the ice for five Blackhawks goals in their 7-4 at home over the Flyers on Oct. 18.
Couturier propels Flyers past LA Kings in season opener, 4-2
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Travis Konecny and Ivan Provorov already looked comfortable with the Philadelphia Flyers from the first moments of their NHL debuts.
The Flyers all made themselves quite comfortable at Staples Center in an impressive season opener.
