Eagles release 2017 4th-round pick Donnel Pumphrey
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Running back Donnel Pumphrey was among the players released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.
Pumphrey was a fourth-round pick in 2017 after becoming the all-time NCAA rushing leader at San Diego State. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve because of a hamstring injury and missed the first three preseason games this year because of injuries. Pumphrey could return on the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Eagles sign quarterback Christian Hackenberg
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Eagles have signed quarterback Christian Hackenberg and waived rookie offensive lineman Ian Park.
Hackenberg was selected in the second round of the NFL draft by the New York Jets in 2016 but didn't play in a game. He was traded to Oakland in May for a conditional 2019 draft pick and was released two weeks later.
Nick Foles misses practice again because of muscle spams
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Nick Foles has missed three straight practices because of muscle spasms near his shoulder and neck and Carson Wentz still isn't participating in 11-on-11 drills for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Foles' injury isn't considered serious, but it's uncertain whether the Super Bowl MVP will play in the preseason opener Thursday night against Pittsburgh. Wentz is coming back from surgery to repair a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee.
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers done for season, put on IR
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Aaron Rodgers is done for the season.
The Green Bay Packers put their star quarterback on injured reserve Tuesday, a day after they were eliminated from playoff contention.
Rodgers missed seven games after breaking his right collarbone Oct. 15 against Minnesota. He returned on Sunday, but the Packers lost 31-24 at Carolina. Atlanta's win against Tampa Bay on Monday night ended Green Bay's eight-year run of consecutive postseason berths.
Packers: Aaron Rodgers says he’s ‘not coming back to save this team’
GREEN BAY — There was something different about the vibe at 1265 Lombardi Avenue Wednesday.
“It seemed like everybody was in a pretty good mood,” third-string quarterback Joe Callahan said, smirking at his understatement.
Packers: By any name, quarterback Joe Callahan says he’s ready if called upon
GREEN BAY — The nicknames, courtesy of Aaron Rodgers, keep coming.
When Joe Callahan was the feel-good story of the Green Bay Packers’ 2016 training camp as an undrafted free agent from tiny Wesley College, the two-time NFL MVP took it upon himself to bestow a few nicknames on the new kid in the quarterback room.
Green Bay Packers: While Mike McCarthy remains committed to him, Brett Hundley knows he’s ‘just got to be better’
GREEN BAY — Mike McCarthy is sticking with Brett Hundley as his quarterback – not that the Green Bay Packers coach has much of a choice.

Tom Oates: Cutdown day reveals some potential problem areas on Packers’ roster
Welcome to NFL cutdown day or, as we now call it, the one day a year when Ted Thompson steps out of character and rolls the dice.
A year after taking the risky step of cutting Pro Bowl guard Josh Sitton in the final roster reduction, the Green Bay Packers’ normally cautious general manager was at it again Saturday. This time he gambled by parting with a good portion of his promising young talent at quarterback and wide receiver.
Packers: Roster trimmed to 53, more personnel moves likely to occur
GREEN BAY — Ted Thompson has always contended that it’s wrong to call what resulted from Saturday’s 34 roster moves the “final” roster.
Rather, the longtime Green Bay Packers general manager insists, the 53 players who are presently on the roster are part of what he calls the “first” roster.
Packers: Wait is on to see if Taysom Hill, Joe Callahan clear waivers
GREEN BAY — In the end, the Green Bay Packers decided going with only two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster was the right move and worth the risk of losing one or both of their promising young signal-callers to another NFL team.
The Packers cut both undrafted rookie free agent Taysom Hill and second-year man Joe Callahan as part of the 34 roster moves they had to make to get down to the NFL-mandated roster limit.
Quarterback Taysom Hill doesn’t make cut for Packers
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Taysom Hill received a call Saturday he was hoping wouldn’t have to get.
The rookie quarterback learned he had been cut by the Green Bay Packers on the NFL’s mandatory cutdown day.
The Packers decided to just keep two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. That meant Hill and second-year quarterback Joe Callahan, who were fighting for the No. 3 job behind Aaron Rodgers and Brett Hundley, were let go.
Packers cut QBs Callahan and Hill, and 2 drafted rookie WRs
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The close competition for the Green Bay Packers' third-string quarterback job ended in an unfortunate tie for Joe Callahan and Taysom Hill.
They were among roster cuts and other moves announced by the team Saturday to get to the 53-man roster.
The Green Bay Packers have released quarterback Taysom Hill, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapaport. Rapport also reported the team hopes to bring Hill back on the practice squad. Saturday was the final day NFL teams could trim their rosters to 53 players.
Tom Oates: Brett Hundley’s play gives Packers a valuable trade piece
Rookie Taysom Hill is the latest quarterbacking flavor of the month in the Green Bay Packers’ training camp, following in the footsteps of Brett Hundley in 2015 and Joe Callahan last year.
The month, of course, is August, which is when young quarterbacks get their chance to shine while the starter — in this case, Aaron Rodgers — remains safely on the sideline for the most part during exhibition games.
Packers: Rookie quarterback Taysom Hill delivers again in second preseason game
GREEN BAY — For the third straight year, the Green Bay Packers have themselves a rookie quarterback who’s turning heads.
Two years ago, it was Brett Hundley, a fifth-round pick from UCLA who made it very clear very quickly he should have been drafted much earlier. Last summer, it was Joe Callahan, a little-known undrafted free agent from tiny Division III Wesley (Del.) who showed a Brett Favre-like knack for improvisation while Hundley scarcely played because of an ankle injury.
Packers: Quarterback Joe Callahan out to prove himself again
GREEN BAY — As underdog training camp narratives go, Joe Callahan’s improbable run for a spot on the Green Bay Packers’ 53-man roster last summer has to rank among the more compelling since the team’s renaissance began 25 years ago.
WR Randall Cobb returns for Packers for wild-card game
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Packers receiver Randall Cobb is active for the wild-card game against the New York Giants, giving quarterback Aaron Rodgers a full complement of targets in the Packers' potent passing attack.
Cobb missed the last two games with an ankle injury. He had nine catches for a season-high 108 yards when the teams met at Lambeau Field in Week 5.
Packers list Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews as questionable
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Packers have listed injured stars Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews as questionable for Green Bay's game Sunday against the Houston Texans.
Coach Mike McCarthy has said that Rodgers and Matthews are expected to play. They were limited on Thursday in the Packers' one day on the practice field so far this week.
Injured CBs active for Giants; Packers lose another CB
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Cornerbacks Eli Apple and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie are active for the New York Giants against the Packers on Sunday night, while Green Bay was without top cornerbacks Damarious Randall and Sam Shields.
Randall had a groin injury that limited him in practice all week, while Shields will miss his third straight game because of a concussion.
Second-year players Quinten Rollins and LaDarius Gunter will start at cornerback against the Giants.
Callahan solid again as Packers fall to Chiefs, 17-7
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Packers coach Mike McCarthy got everything he wanted out of the preseason.
Two series for Aaron Rodgers and a bunch of work for his backups.
That includes rookie Joe Callahan, who capped a strong preseason by throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown as the Packers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 17-7 in their preseason finale Thursday night.
