Josh Jones not in attendance at Packers’ OTAs
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Packers would love nothing better than to put an offseason of turmoil behind them.
Not so fast: Safety Josh Jones reportedly wants a trade.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers may have shown a greater willingness this offseason to sign veteran free agents under first-year general manager Brian Gutekunst, but the team is standing pat for now after injuries to key contributors on defense.
One day after inside linebacker Jake Ryan (knee) and safety Kentrell Brice (ankle) each had to be carted off the practice field, Gutekunst said Tuesday he's not going to seek outside help at either position.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Blake Martinez gathered his fellow inside linebackers together after a tough day at Green Bay Packers practice.
It's difficult to see two key members of the defense go down with injuries on just the fourth day of training camp.
As Morgan Burnett departs, Packers’ secondary becomes primary concern
GREEN BAY — The depletion of the Green Bay Packers’ defensive backfield continues. At least this time, the team has an obvious replacement.
Veteran safety Morgan Burnett signed a three-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers Tuesday, after the Packers made little effort to bring back the eight-year veteran.
Packers: Tom Oates gives Green Bay an overall grade of ‘B’ for overtime win at Tampa Bay
Brett Hundley ran the wrong play on a fourth-and-1 toss in the third quarter but was superb after that. Davante Adams made a huge touchdown catch to tie the game. Then he did it again to win the game. Cleveland stuffed the box and the backs had little running room. Jamaal Williams helped in the passing game.
Packers rally to stun winless Browns 27-21 in overtime
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Green Bay Packers came back to set the stage for Aaron Rodgers' comeback.
Brett Hundley threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams in overtime as the Packers rallied from a two-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter for a 27-21 win on Sunday over the Cleveland Browns, who remain winless.
Cleveland fell to 0-13 and made too many crucial mistakes to break into the win column.
Packers: Rookie defensive backs create buzz in win over Bengals
GREEN BAY — There’s one impossible-to-miss attribute that rookies Kevin King and Josh Jones share: They do not lack for confidence.
Packers: Tom Oates gives Green Bay overall grade of ‘B’ for OT victory over Cincinnati
By the end of the game, Aaron Rodgers had made everyone forget he threw a pick-six. Rodgers was sacked five times in first half alone. Kyle Murphy had a long day against rookie Carl Lawson. World, meet Geronimo Allison. Where is the run game? Davante Adams and Martellus Bennett had late third-down drops.
Packers rookie defenders make key plays in OT win
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Packers got a glimpse of what their top two draft picks are capable of during Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals, with hybrid safety/linebacker Josh Jones and cornerback Kevin King making their first NFL starts.
And they did not disappoint.
"Anytime you can get your young players in there and get that experience, (it's valuable)," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday, one day after the team's 27-24 overtime victory over the Bengals.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Josh Jones is listed as a safety on the Green Bay Packers roster, though he eventually he might be better known as a jack-of-all-trades player.
The hard-hitting rookie drafted in the third round has left a strong impression so far in training camp, showing the potential to contribute quickly at an already strong position.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy likes how the team's young players are performing in minicamp.
McCarthy said before Wednesday's workouts that the reps are critical for the young players. He singled out a few Packers including cornerback Damarious Randall, who McCarthy says has been outstanding this offseason.
Packers sign second-round draft pick Josh Jones
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers have signed second-round defensive back Josh Jones.
The Journal Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/2q7HMO8 ) the Packers expect to use Jones in a variety of roles, including possibly at linebacker. Jones was considered a safety at North Carolina State.
Packers: Mike McCarthy has long been a fan of second-round pick and defensive back Josh Jones
GREEN BAY — Mike McCarthy is not a draftnik.
He’s got no designs on being the Green Bay Packers coach and general manager. He’s not taking whatever spare time he has during the season and putting it toward college scouting, retiring to some Lambeau Field anteroom looking at prospects’ film. And he’s not sneaking into the team’s draft room every spring, looking at the board and moving his favorites up the board.
Tom Oates: Draft picks provide Packers with more versatility on defense
Despite needs at multiple positions entering last month’s draft, the Green Bay Packers used their top two picks — both second-rounders — on defensive backs.
Still, assuming cornerback Kevin King and safety Josh Jones possess NFL-caliber talent, the Packers’ preoccupation with upgrading their secondary could be a stroke of genius, perhaps as soon as this season, because it will allow them to alter their approach.
Packers: Second-round pick Josh Jones is confident he can help at several spots
GREEN BAY — Josh Jones might be just what the Green Bay Packers defense needs.
He is big, strong and athletic. (He’s 6-foot-1, 220 pounds.)
He is fast. (He ran a 4.40-second 40-yard dash.)
He is versatile. (He can play both safety spots and both inside slot positions, line up outside in a pinch, and the Packers believe he will even play linebacker in passing situations.)

NFL Draft: Packers check off a number of boxes on their to-do list with this year’s selections
GREEN BAY – When the 2017 NFL Draft was over, the Green Bay Packers had checked off a number of the boxes on their pre-draft to-do list.
Infuse talent on defense? Check – they used their first four picks (two seconds, a third and a fourth) on that side of the ball, adding Wisconsin linebacker Vince Biegel with the first pick of Day 3 Saturday morning before shifting their focus to offense for their final six selections.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — What a day for Montravius Adams.
First he became a father after his girlfriend gave birth to their first child, son Montravius Adams, Jr., at about 2:30 p.m. Friday. About eight hours later, life changed again for the 6-foot-4, 300-pound Adams as the Auburn defensive lineman was drafted in the third round by the Green Bay Packers.
"Man, there (are) really no words I can say," Adams said. "I'm just thankful for the blessings."
Doeren hopes Wolfpack grows from bumpy year, bowl victory
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State went into the final two games flirting with a losing season amid questions about the future of coach Dave Doeren.
The Wolfpack closed the year with flurry: a road win against a rival; a statement of support for Doeren from the school's athletic director; and now a bowl win. Doeren is hoping Monday's Independence Bowl victory against Vanderbilt is a sign that his program has found some momentum and learned from a bumpy season.
