Yeboah, Saintel help Stony Brook upset Albany 69-60
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Akwasi Yeboah and Junior Saintel combined for 35 points and No. 5 seed Stony Brook led wire-to-wire, ousting fourth-seeded Albany 69-60 in an America East Tournament quarterfinal Saturday night.
Stony Brook (13-18) travels to meet top-seeded Vermont (26-6) in a semifinal on Tuesday.
Iroegbu leads Stony Brook past New Hampshire 72-63
STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — UC Iroegbu hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points and Stony Brook defeated New Hampshire 72-63 on Sunday to split the season series and join the Wildcats in fifth place in the America East Conference.
Junior Saintel added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Seawolves (11-17, 6-8), who avenged a two-point loss to New Hampshire on Jan. 21.
Tanner Leissner scored 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting for the Wildcats (10-18, 6-8), who have lost three straight.
Stony Brook continues dominance of Maine with 64-61 win
BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Akwasi Yeboah scored with 44 seconds left for the lead and Tyrell Sturdivant added three free throws in Stony Brook's 64-61 victory over Maine on Sunday.
Sturdivant's final free throws with three seconds left made it 63-59.
UC Iroegbu led the Seawolves (10-16, 5-7 America East) with 13 points. Yeboah, Sturdivant and Olaniyi added 11 each with Olaniyi making three 3-pointers. Junior Saintel had a career-high five blocks by halftime.
Lyles, Lamar help UMBC to 67-63 win at Stony Brook
STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Jairus Lyles scored 24 points and Arkel Lamar, who'd made only one free throw in the game, calmly swished two with 1.7 seconds on the clock and Maryland-Baltimore County edged Stony Brook 67-63 on Wednesday night.
Camara sets rebounding mark, UNH tops Stony Brook 53-51
DURHAM, N.H. (AP) — Iba Camara became New Hampshire's all-time rebounder, scored the final five points and blocked a last-second shot in a 53-51 victory over Stony Brook on Sunday.
With Stony Brook leading 51-48, Camara drove and scored with 1:28 left then added three free throws in the final minute before rejecting Jaron Cornish's shot at the rim as time ran out.
Sturdivant’s 3-pointer lifts Stony Brook over Hartford 63-61
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Tyrell Sturdivant knocked down a 3-pointer from the top of the key with five seconds left to send Stony Brook to a 63-61 victory over Hartford on Saturday.
Akwasi Yeboah scored seven of his 14 points in the final eight-plus minutes to lead a late surge for the Seawolves (7-9, 2-0 America East Conference), who beat the Hawks (8-8, 1-1) for the 10th straight time. Junior Saintel added 14 points and four steals, while Sturdivant and UC Iroegbu scored 10.
Iroegbu hits winner as Stony Brook scraps past Maine 71-70
STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — UC Iroegbu hit an open 3-pointer with 4.2 seconds on the clock as Stony Brook, after giving up a 20-point lead, held off Maine 71-70 in the America East Conference opener for both teams Wednesday night.
The Seawolves (6-9) led 41-28 at the half, and stretched it to 56-36 midway through the second half. Maine strung together a pair of 11-2 runs and grabbed the lead 70-68 before Iroegbu fired up the winner.
Hernandez scores 23 in LIU Brooklyn’s win over Stony Brook
NEW YORK (AP) — Joel Hernandez had 23 points and Jashaun Agosto scored four of his 10 points in the closing seconds to help LIU Brooklyn beat Stony Brook 75-51 on Monday night.
Raiquan Clark scored 20 points and Julius Van Sauers added 16 on 6-of-7 shooting for LIU Brooklyn (4-6).
Sekunda leads Stony Brook over NAIA’s Shawnee State 101-58
STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Bryan Sekunda scored 21 points off the bench and led five players in double-figure scoring as Stony Brook beat Shawnee State of the NAIA 101-58 on Wednesday night.
Sekunda hit all of his shots (6 of 7) from 3-point range for the Seawolves (2-5). Jordan McKenzie and Elijah Olaniyi scored 16 points apiece, Junior Saintel had 12 points and led all players with 11 rebounds and Akwasi Yeboah chipped in 10 points.
Persons propels Ball State past Stony Brook in home opener
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Tayler Persons poured in 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting and keyed a late run as Ball State rallied to defeat Stony Brook 87-76 in their home opener on Friday night.
The Cardinals (1-2) were clinging to a 67-64 lead when Persons got hot. The junior guard, who also grabbed six rebounds, hit two 3-pointers and scored 10 of Ball State's next 12 points to increase the Cardinals' lead to 79-69. The Seawolves (0-3) got no closer than five points over the final 2:29.
Lynn has 26, Coleman 20 as NJIT holds off Stony Brook 64-61
STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Damon Lynn scored 26 points and Tim Coleman had 20 and NJIT held off Stony Brook 64-61 on Wednesday night.
The Highlanders (7-8) led 38-34 at the half and the game was tight throughout, decided when Lucas Woodhouse's 3-pointer bounced off the back iron as time expired.
Stony Brook downs St. Francis (PA) 75-63
LORETTO, Pa. (AP) — Bryan Sekunda tied his career best with five 3-pointers on nine attempts and Stony Brook beat St. Francis (PA) 75-63 on Saturday.
Sekunda and Lucas Woodhouse scored 17 apiece and the Seawolves made 12 of 28 3-pointers and opened with a 10-5 run. Woodhouse scored 14 points in the first half and Stony Brook never trailed in building a 40-34 halftime lead.
