Some players skip bowls with bonuses at stake for coaches
Dana Holgorsen can earn a $25,000 bonus if West Virginia beats Syracuse next week in the Camping World Bowl, a game the Mountaineers will play without star quarterback Will Grier and left tackle Yodny Cajuste.
Dave Doeren's contract with North Carolina State calls for him to receive a $50,000 bonus if the Wolfpack beat Texas A&M in the Gator Bowl. N.C. State's best players on either side of the ball (receiver Kelvin Harmon and linebacker Germaine Pratt) will not play.
NC State WR Harmon to enter NFL draft, won’t play in bowl
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State junior Kelvin Harmon is entering the NFL draft and won't play in the Gator Bowl.
Harmon announced his decision Monday through the school, with the receiver saying he and his family have decided "it is time for me to proceed to the next chapter in my football life."
Harmon caught 177 passes for 2,665 yards in his career, and his 1,186 yards receiving this year marked the fourth-best single-season total in program history.
No. 22 NC State hosts Wake looking to continue climbing
Wake Forest (4-5, 1-4 ACC) at No. 22 North Carolina State (6-2, 3-2, No. 14 CFP), Thursday, 7:30 p.m. EST (ESPN).
Harmon making the tough catches for No. 16 Wolfpack
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — It doesn't matter to North Carolina State's Kelvin Harmon whether he's wide open downfield or tussling with a defensive back as the ball comes his way.
Just get the ball close, and he's going to make that catch.
Finley leads NC State over Marshall 37-20
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — North Carolina State remains unbeaten after its first road trip and after being handed a week off by Hurricane Florence.
Ryan Finley threw for 377 yards and a touchdown to lead North Carolina State to a 37-20 victory over Marshall on Saturday night.
Kelvin Harmon caught six passes for 150 yards, all in the first half, and Reggie Gallaspy had two short TD runs for the Wolfpack (3-0), who never trailed in their final tuneup to next weekend's start of the ACC schedule.
Wolfpack QB Finley returning for final college season
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State quarterback Ryan Finley says he'll return for his final season of eligibility instead of entering the NFL draft.
The school released Finley's statement Saturday, with Finley saying he believes N.C. State could win an Atlantic Coast Conference title with several key starters returning on offense.
NC State's 52-31 Sun Bowl victory against Arizona State matched the Pack's talent and its potential to end a season that raised the bar in Raleigh.
"We have records being broken in this game -- the all-time leading receiver here in Jaylen Samuels, we have a 3,000-yard passer in Ryan Finley, a 1,000-yard receiver in Kelvin Harmon and a 1,000-yard rusher in Nyheim Hines," head coach Dave Doeren said after the game.
‘Simple execution’ costs NC State in loss at Wake Forest
A fumble at the goal line, an interception in the end zone and mishandled, bobbled, uncaught passes... drops: "Simple execution, that was it."
Shawn Boone said the words, applying it to NC State's defensive failures, but it's the serve-all explanation for what the Pack (7-4, 5-2 ACC) lacked in its 30-24 loss to Wake Forest.
As the Wolfpack chased the lead on the road the entire game, tying the score four different times but never leading, the team was never as sharp as it needed to be.
Harmon leading No. 20 Wolfpack’s improved wide receiver play
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State's Kelvin Harmon is changing the 20th-ranked Wolfpack's passing game.
The 6-foot-3 sophomore is on pace for the program's best receiving season in more than a decade entering Saturday's game against No. 6 Clemson. He's providing quarterback Ryan Finley with a big and strong downfield target, one that N.C. State didn't really have in its first four seasons under coach Dave Doeren.
Finley throws 3 TDs, NC State beats Marshall 37-20
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State's slow start had nothing to do with losing last week. The Wolfpack's strong finish had everything to do with finding a rhythm.
Ryan Finley threw three touchdown passes and N.C. State beat Marshall 37-20 on Saturday night.
