Kershaw efficient, Dodgers pull closer to 1st-place Rockies

Dodgers send right-handers Maeda and Stripling to bullpen
DENVER (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers are sending right-handers Kenta Maeda and Ross Stripling to the bullpen to make room for two starters about to return from the disabled list.
Left-hander Alex Wood is scheduled to come off the disabled list and pitch Tuesday against San Francisco. He went on the DL on Aug. 4 with adductor tendinitis. Lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu is healed from a strained groin that has sidelined him since early May. Ryu is expected to be activated and start on Wednesday.
Arenado leaves in 5th inning with sore right shoulder
DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado left the game against the Dodgers in the top of the fifth inning with a sore right shoulder.

"That's the perfect gift I could ask for," said Roberts, who turned 46 on Thursday. "I know he's been chomping at the bit and he's back in that Kershaw game-day mode today, so that's good."
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-hander Kenta Maeda and infielder Chase Utley on the 10-day disabled list on Wednesday.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dodgers right-hander Kenta Maeda left a start Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Phillies in the second inning with a right hip strain.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kenta Maeda dominated Colorado's hitters, retiring 10 of his final 14 batters on strikeouts.
The Japanese right-hander is coming up big at a time when the Los Angeles Dodgers are down three starters: ace Clayton Kershaw, Rich Hill and Hyun-Jin Ryu.
Maeda tossed two-hit ball into the seventh inning and struck out a season-high 12 to help the Dodgers beat the NL West-leading Rockies 3-0 on Wednesday night and win consecutive series for just the second time this season.
MIAMI (AP) — For one afternoon, finally, the Dodgers were better than last.
