Bystander shoots man who fatally shot wife at dentist office
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) — A Tennessee sheriff says a man has fatally shot his wife at the dentist office where she worked.
Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy told news outlets that a bystander at David A. Guy Dentistry in Kingsport then shot the man and held him until officers arrived. Cassidy said the bystander was legally licensed to carry a weapon. He called him a hero who "took care of the situation until police officers arrived."
Suspects in Tennessee double slaying arrested in Kentucky
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) — Police say two suspects in a double fatal shooting in Tennessee have been arrested in Kentucky.
A statement from the Kingsport Police Department in East Tennessee says the men were apprehended Tuesday evening in Adair County, Kentucky, and are awaiting extradition.

Longtime Vikings assistant coach John Michels dies at 87
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) — John Michels, a College Football Hall of Famer whose 27 seasons as a Minnesota Vikings assistant coach included all four of their Super Bowl appearances, has died. He was 87.
Michels' daughter, Sarah Michels-Dunkel, said Friday that her father died Thursday in Kingsport.
Fire destroys building at ammunition plant
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) — An official says a fire has destroyed a building at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Justine Barati is the Director of Public and Congressional Affairs for Joint Munitions Command. Barati told news outlets that an alarm sounded Thursday morning alerting officials to a fire at the plant. She said on-site emergency personnel responded immediately and secured the building, and there's no danger to the public.
Stolen baby Jesus figurines back in Tennessee mangers

Department looks to acquire properties for project
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Department of Transportation is looking to acquire 278 properties to complete a project that'll widen a stretch of state Route 126.
The Bristol Herald Courier reports the project will widen the existing highway and will include adding sidewalks and improving intersections on a roughly 4.1-mile (6.6-kilometer) stretch. Currently, the project's total cost is expected to be $50 million.
Bare buns: Half-naked woman falls through Cook Out ceiling
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) — Police in Tennessee say a half-naked woman fell twice through a restaurant's ceiling and landed in its kitchen.
News outlets report 26-year-old Harley C. Morton was arrested Tuesday on charges including trespassing and disorderly conduct.
A Kingsport police report says a Cook Out employee called 911 when the naked bottom half of a woman dropped through the ceiling tiles.

Kingsport native’s movie to be screened at local theater
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) — After establishing himself in the acting world, Kingsport native Jonathan Hamblin is trying out the other side of filmmaking.
Later this month, Hamblin's first film, "Hush Little Baby Welcome To The Family," will be screened at the Marquee Cinemas-Pinnacle 12 theater in Bristol.
Though he is new to the world of writing and directing, Hamblin has high hopes for the film, which he believes is a fresh escape from what's typically produced in Hollywood.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Republican Bill Lee and Democrat Karl Dean are slated to face off in three Tennessee governor's race debates in October.
According to a Lee campaign news release, the debates will be Oct. 2 at the University of Memphis; Oct. 9 at the Eastman Employee Center in Kingsport; and Oct. 12 at a location in Nashville to be determined.
Dean's campaign wanted to go head-to-head in more than just the three debates.

COEBURN, Va. (AP) — Tracy Stallard, the pitcher who gave up Roger Maris' record 61st home run in 1961, has died. He was 80.
The Sturgill Funeral Home in Coeburn, Virginia, said Monday that Stallard died Wednesday at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.
He was on the mound for Boston in 1961 when Maris broke the single-season record that Babe Ruth had held since 1927. The record stayed until 1998.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Monday that 58-year-old Ralph O. Cline, Jr. has pleaded guilty to one count of patronizing prostitution.
The state police agency says Cline was a lieutenant with the Kingsport Police Department. The agency says he paid to have sex inside his unmarked police vehicle.
