LAS VEGAS (AP) — Mexican rock band Mana became the first group ever to be honored as the Latin Recording Academy's Person of the Year Wednesday, when its four members were recognized during a star-studded tribute concert for their creative accomplishments and philanthropic efforts.
J Balvin leads Latin Grammy noms with 8 nods, 1 with Beyonce
NEW YORK (AP) — Reggaeton star J Balvin received eight Latin Grammy Award nominations on Thursday, including two for record of the year, one for album of the year and one featuring Beyonce for his hit version of "Mi gente" with Willy William.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Jimmy Gonzalez, the frontman for the Grammy-winning Tejano (tay-HAH'-noh) group Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz (ee GROO'-poh MAHS), has died in Texas after becoming ill. He was 67.
A promoter for the group's label, Freddie Records , says Gonzalez died Wednesday morning in San Antonio. Eloy Leija (EE'-loy LAY'-huh) says Gonzalez, who co-founded the group, had health problems related to diabetes.
Latin Grammys pay tribute to Puerto Rico in songs, speeches
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Thursday's Latin Grammy Awards were a love letter to Puerto Rico, with several artists dedicating their performances and awards to the island hard hit by Hurricane Maria.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, rapper Residente and singer-songwriter Luis Fonsi, all of Puerto Rican heritage, dedicated their awards to their homeland.
Fonsi's global hit "Despacito" was the night's big winner, making good on all four of its nominations, including record and song of the year.

Alejandro Sanz celebrated as Latin Grammy Person of the Year
NEW YORK (AP) — If he could travel back in time, Alejandro Sanz says he would stop and enjoy the moment when his career started taking off two decades ago.
"Maybe I would ask life for a little more consciousness during those years so I could have realized all the things that I was living without thinking about what was going to happen the next day, to live more in the moment," Sanz said in a recent phone interview with The Associated Press.

Lin-Manuel: Puerto Rican efforts making up for slow start
NEW YORK (AP) — Lin-Manuel Miranda's next project is far away from Broadway, in a 35-mile-long stage. The artist is focused in helping Puerto Rico recover from the devastation Hurricane Maria has left.
"Our next project is getting a sense of normalcy back to our island," he said more than a month after Maria hit hard. "Everything has kind of taken a back seat to that."
Latin Grammy nominations postponed over natural disasters
MIAMI (AP) — Nominations for the Latin Grammy Awards have been postponed because of Tuesday's earthquake in Mexico and the aftermath of hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
Latin Recording Academy President Gabriel Abaroa Jr. said in a statement Tuesday that the delay comes "as an outgrowth of the terrible and tragic recent natural disasters."
Nomination announcements had been scheduled for Wednesday. No new date has been chosen.
Alejandro Sanz named Latin Grammy Person of the Year
NEW YORK (AP) — Spanish music star Alejandro Sanz has been named 2017 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year.
The academy will honor the 18-time Latin Grammy Award- and three-time Grammy Award-winner on Nov. 15 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, on the eve of the Latin Grammys.
The nominees for the 2017 Latin Grammy Awards will be announced on Sept. 20 and the awards will be handed out on Nov. 16.
The Latin Recording Academy made the announcements Tuesday. The 18th annual Latin Grammy Awards will air live on Univision from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The organization also says that on Nov. 15 it will honor its annual Person of the Year, lifetime achievement recipients and trustees award winners.
