UC Riverside leads throughout to beat Cal Poly 72-63
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Dikymbe Martin had 20 points with eight rebounds and six assists and UC Riverside led throughout to beat Cal Poly 72-63 on Thursday night to secure a spot in the Big West Conference Tournament beginning March 8.
Martin, who had eight points in the final minute, made 10 of 11 from the line. Chance Murray drained 5 of 10 from long range to total 17 points and Alex Larsson added 16 for the Highlanders (9-20, 4-11).
Cal Poly beats CSU Northridge 90-86 in 2OT behind Joseph
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Victor Joseph scored 11 of his career-high 36 points in the second overtime and Cal Poly rallied to beat CSU Northridge 90-86 on Thursday night.
Joseph's jumper and two free throws put Cal Poly up 82-78 and the Mustangs led 85-80 on his 3 with 1:11 left in 2OT. The Matadors closed to 85-84 on Lyrik Shreiner's free throws, but Luke Meikle and Joseph combined for three free throws for an 88-84 Cal Poly lead.
Levin, Yussuf power Long Beach State past Cal Poly 73-54
LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Gabe Levin and Temidayo Yussuf posted double-doubles and Long Beach State pulled away in the second half to defeat Cal Poly 73-54 on Saturday night.
Cal Poly rallies in 2nd half, beats Hawaii 78-64
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Donovan Fields scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half to help Cal Poly beat Hawaii 78-64 on Saturday night.
Cal Poly (8-15, 3-6 Big West Conference) has won two straight since snapping a six-game skid. Hawaii (13-8, 4-4) has lost three in row.
Luke Meikle, Jakub Niziol and Victor Joseph each scored 12 points for the Mustangs.
UC Davis home streak reaches 19, beats Cal Poly 80-56
DAVIS, Calif. (AP) — Chima Moneke scored 21 points and UC Davis used a big first-half surge to beat Cal Poly, 80-56 and extend the Aggies home winning streak to 19 games in a Big West Conference battle Saturday night.
The game was a rematch of last year's Big West Conference quarterfinal, which UC Davis won en route to the championship. Cal Poly now has lost six straight.
Long Beach State dominates boards in 87-71 victory
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Gabe Levin scored 21 points and Temidayo Yussuf had a double-double as Long Beach State handed Cal Poly its fifth straight loss, 87-71, on Thursday night.
Yussuf scored 17 points and led the 49ers' 45-28 domination on the boards — including 17-4 on the offensive glass — for his second double-double this season and fifth of his career.
Meikle makes 3 FTs with 0.3 left; Cal Poly beats UCSB 80-79
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Luke Meikle made three free throws with 0.3 seconds left to give Cal Poly an 80-79 victory over UC Santa Barbara in a wild finish to a Big West Conference opener on Thursday night.
Jalen Canty split a pair of free throws and UC Santa Barbara led 77-75. Cal Poly's Donovan Fields answered with a layup to tie at 77 with 15 seconds remaining, but Max Heidegger hit a jumper and the Gauchos regained the lead, 79-77 with a second left.
Hervey shoots UT Arlington past Cal Poly 77-56
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Kevin Hervey poured in 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, and grabbed 10 rebounds for his fourth straight double-double and UT Arlington overpowered Cal Poly 77-56 on Thursday night.
Kaelon Wilson added 13 points and Erick Neal scored nine with seven assists for the Mavericks (9-4), who turned 19 Cal Poly turnovers into 17 points and outscored the Mustangs 32-12 in the paint.
Princeton hits 16 3s, beats Cal Poly 80-60
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Myles Stephens had a career-high 16 points and Princeton made a season-high 16 3-pointers in an 80-60 win over Cal Poly on Saturday night.
The Tigers (4-6) had a 35-18 lead at halftime and, after Cal Poly scored the opening four points of the second half, went on a 16-2 run to lead 51-24 before the 16-minute mark. The Mustangs (4-7) got the deficit no closer than the final score.
Fresno State cruises to 83-63 win over Cal Poly
SN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Deshon Taylor hit all 10 of his free-throw attempts and finished with 21 points, Ray Bowles added 19 points and Fresno State extended its win streak to six with an 83-63 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday night.
Terrell Carter II had 16 points on 7-for-7 shooting, Sam Bittner added 12 points and Bryson Williams 11 for Fresno State, which shot 51 percent from the field, including 9 for 18 from long range.
Idaho beats Cal Poly for 3rd place in Great Alaska Shootout
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Victor Sanders scored 24 on Saturday night, and Idaho led almost the entire way to beat Cal Poly 75-66 in the third-place game of the Great Alaska Shootout.
Sanders was 7 of 12 from 3-point range, Nate Sherwood added 17 points, Perrion Callandret scored 14 and Brayon Blake 10. The Vandals (4-2) led 57-39 near the middle of the second half after a 15-3 run.
