Reynolds a non-roster invitee to Rockies’ spring training
DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies announced that infielder Mark Reynolds is among the team's non-roster invitees to major league spring training.
The 35-year-old Reynolds spent 2016 and '17 with the Rockies before joining Washington last season. He hit .248 with 13 homers and 40 RBIs in 86 games.
Should Reynolds be added to the 40-man roster, he would receive a $1 million, one-year contract and a chance to earn $1 million in performance bonuses.
Nats end 32-inning scoring drought, then romp past Mets 15-0
NEW YORK (AP) — Trea Turner touched the plate, then turned to his teammates on the bench.
"We did it, boys," he told them.
Turner set off a lively dugout celebration after scoring a run that ended Washington's 32-inning scoreless drought and the Nationals broke loose in a huge way, hammering the New York Mets 15-0 Sunday.
"I think everybody knew it was coming," slugger Bryce Harper said.
Nationals set team scoring record, rout Reyes, Mets 25-4
WASHINGTON (AP) — In the highest-scoring game in franchise history, Daniel Murphy hit two early home runs and the Washington Nationals kept pouring it on against emergency reliever Jose Reyes and the New York Mets in a 25-4 rout Tuesday night.
Trea Turner, who apologized before the game to his teammates for homophobic and racially insensitive tweets he sent several years ago, had four of Washington's 26 hits. Pitcher Tanner Roark (5-12) hit a three-run double during a seven-run first inning.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Mark Reynolds homered twice and drove in a career-high 10 runs, Max Scherzer won for the first time since June 5, and the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 18-4 on Saturday night.
Washington has won three straight and scored a combined 35 runs since calling a players-only meeting on Wednesday after falling under .500 for the first time since May 2.
Reynolds (5 for 5) tied his career high for hits and equaled the Nationals' RBI record.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Mark Reynolds may have sent his manager toward a sleepless night.
How is Dave Martinez supposed to rest when he's got to figure out whether Reynolds' career night earned him another start Sunday?
"Well, I mean I'm going to sleep just fine. That's his problem," Reynolds joked afterward. "I'll be ready to go either way."
WASHINGTON (AP) — Nationals manager Dave Martinez acknowledged he was looking for someone who could end the game with one swing in the ninth inning Friday night.
He chose the right guy.
Pinch-hitter Mark Reynolds led off the bottom of the ninth with a home run that lifted the Nationals past the Miami Marlins 3-2.
ATLANTA (AP) — Starter Jeremy Hellickson will have an MRI after straining his right hamstring, forcing him to leave with one out in the first inning of the Washington Nationals' 4-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday.
As Hellickson ran to cover Ozzie Albies' grounder, a throwing error by first baseman Mark Reynolds caused him to drop the ball as he came down on the bag. Hellickson immediately clutched the back top of his leg and walked slowly off the field.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Juan Soto, the youngest player in the majors at 19, hit a three-run homer in his first career start as the Washington Nationals defeated the San Diego Padres 10-2 on Monday night.
Mark Reynolds had two solo home runs for the Nationals, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Bryce Harper had a homer and an RBI double.
PHOENIX (AP) — Mark Reynolds needed one game — and two big swings — to make his presence felt with the Washington Nationals.
After failing to find a job in the offseason, Reynolds homered twice in his first game as a National on Sunday night, lifting his new team over the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 to complete a four-game sweep.
"It's good to be back in the big leagues again," he said, "and doing what I've been doing for a long time."
PHOENIX (AP) — The Washington Nationals placed first baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 10-day disabled list Saturday and promoted veteran infielder Mark Reynolds from Triple-A Syracuse.
Zimmerman has been hampered by a right oblique strain. He last played on Wednesday at San Diego.
"Last couple of days he felt the same, so we decided to just give him the 10 days," manager Dave Martinez said. "See if we can get this thing knocked out, calmed down."
A person familiar with the negotiations says free agent Mark Reynolds and the Washington Nationals have agreed to a minor league contract and the first baseman would get a $1.5 million, one-year deal if added to the 40-man roster.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Friday because the agreement is subject to a successful physical.
Ryan McMahon could earn Rockies’ first base job
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Ryan McMahon is moving closer to opening the regular season as the Colorado Rockies' first baseman.
The 23-year-old entered Thursday hitting .387 with a team-leading 12 hits in 31 at-bats.
"The numbers might be OK, but numbers don't really mean much in spring training," McMahon said. "You're just trying to find your swing and get ready for the season. Trying to find the swing that I want and just enjoying it."
Holland declines $15M option with Rockies, goes free
DENVER (AP) — All-Star closer Greg Holland has become a free agent after declining to exercise his $15 million player option with the Colorado Rockies.
Holland bolstered Colorado's bullpen this year by saving a franchise record-tying 41 games in his first season since Tommy John surgery.
NL West-leading Dodgers lose 10th in a row, Rockies romp 8-1
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Dodgers insist they're in this season for the long haul, unwilling to change what got them to 92 victories.
At the same time, manager Dave Roberts is searching for something, anything, to get his team out of its funk.
"I'm open for suggestions," he said after the NL West leaders lost their 10th straight game for their worst skid in 25 years, routed by Mark Reynolds and the Colorado Rockies 8-1 Sunday.
"We have a very frustrated and upset clubhouse," Roberts said.

Story homers twice in Rockies’ 17-2 win over Braves
DENVER (AP) — Trevor Story had a feeling the Colorado Rockies were about to snap out of their offensive slump, and when they did, his bat led the way.
Story had two homers and a career-high six RBIs, Jon Gray pitched six strong innings, and the Rockies beat the Atlanta Braves 17-2 on Wednesday night.
"I felt like one of those games was coming for us eventually," Story said. "We definitely haven't been swinging the bats the past two weeks like we wanted to. Hopefully, tonight was a good sign."
Arenado’s rare error helps Braves beat Rockies, 4-3
DENVER (AP) — Nolan Arenado takes pride in his defense, but when his uncharacteristic error put the Colorado Rockies in a hole he tried to atone with his bat.
That didn't work out for the Gold Glove third baseman, either.
"Just not a very good day for me," Arenado said.
Brandon Phillips scored the go-ahead run on Arenado's throwing error in the eighth inning, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Rockies 4-3 on Tuesday night.
Nick Markakis homered for the Braves, who snapped an 11-game skid in Denver.
Arenado’s bases-loaded walk lifts Rockies over Mets, 5-4
DENVER (AP) — Nolan Arenado has won games with his big swing, so getting a walk-off victory with the bat sitting on his shoulder was a first.
Arenado walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Colorado Rockies beat the New York Mets 5-4 on Thursday.
It was the third time this season Arenado has given the Rockies a walk-off win, but it didn't hold the same drama as his Father's Day grand slam to complete a cycle and give the Rockies a win.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Randal Grichuk is riding his longest home run streak in the majors.
Grichuk hit a two-run homer, Mike Leake pitched seven scoreless innings and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Colorado Rockies 8-2 on Monday night.
Leake's six-strikeout performance was his best since giving up one run over eight innings against Washington on June 30. It was the first win for Leake (7-8) against the Rockies since Aug. 10, 2011.
DENVER (AP) — A two-week stretch between starts didn't seem to bother rookie left-hander Kyle Freeland.
Freeland pitched six strong innings in his first start since taking a no-hitter into the ninth the day before the All-Star break, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-3 on Sunday.
DENVER (AP) — The hot-hitting Gerardo Parra hasn't uttered a word to good friend Carlos Gonzalez about his prolonged slump. There's no reason to.
"Even if he struggles, CarGo's still the man of the team," Parra said. "A great game for him today."
DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies got their first walkoff win of the season, thanks to a rookie.
Raimel Tapia hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Rockies recovered from blowing a late lead to beat the San Francisco Giants 10-9 on Thursday night.
Correction: Rockies-Cubs story
CHICAGO (AP) — In a story June 10 about the Rockies-Cubs game, The Associated Press, relying on information from the Rockies, reported erroneously that Colorado's seven-game winning streak was its longest since 2011. The Rockies won eight in a row in 2013.
A corrected version of the story is below:
Reynolds, Rockies win 7th straight; Cubs lose 4th in row 9-1
Rockies beat Cubs 9-1 for 7th straight win
CHICAGO (AP) — Mark Reynolds and Charlie Blackmon homered, rookie Jeff Hoffman pitched neatly into the seventh inning and the Colorado Rockies won their seventh straight game, beating the Chicago Cubs 9-1 Saturday.
The Cubs lost their fourth in a row, dropping the World Series champions to 30-31.
Reynolds had four hits, including his 17th homer, and Nolan Arenado had a three-run double during a five-run ninth inning. The Rockies, who have the best record in the NL, improved to 24-10 on the road.
Rockies pound Indians 11-3
DENVER (AP) — Rookie pitcher Antonio Senzatela got things rolling for the Colorado Rockies with both his arm and bat.
Senzatela hit a three-run double for the Rockies' first runs of the game, Mark Reynolds homered twice to drive in five runs, and Colorado beat the Cleveland Indians 11-3 Tuesday night.
SEATTLE (AP) — With the count in his favor and Colorado struggling to score runs in recent days, Mark Reynolds figured getting a high fastball on a 2-1 pitch was a good time to swing for the fences.
No fence — or park — was going to contain that swing.
"You've got to pick your spots where you try to hit one far," Reynolds said. "I figured 2-1 count, first at-bat there, was a pretty good spot to take a chance."
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jose Berrios allowed two hits and struck out 11 over 7 2/3 innings as the Minnesota Twins beat the Colorado Rockies 2-0 on Thursday night, salvaging a split of an interleague doubleheader between the first-place teams in the AL Central and NL West.
The Twins scored just three runs in the doubleheader, but Berrios (2-0) made his scant support in the nightcap hold up with the best outing of his young career.
Reynolds, Rockies take 1st game vs. Twins 5-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Mark Reynolds came back to the Colorado Rockies this season on a just-in-case basis.
He's in the middle of their thriving lineup like he was part of the plan all along.
Nolan Arenado got the doubleheader going with a first-inning home run, Reynolds added a two-run single and the road-tough Rockies beat the Minnesota Twins 5-1 on Thursday in the first game.
DENVER (AP) — Mark Reynolds glided into the Colorado Rockies clubhouse on a motorized skateboard.
A fitting ride these days for a player who just keeps rolling along.
Reynolds is having an unlikely All-Star-caliber season, hitting .326 with a team-leading 12 homers and 33 RBIs. Unlikely, because he wasn't even supposed to be the everyday first baseman for the NL West-leading Rockies.
DENVER (AP) — Tyler Chatwood was off his game — and that was a good thing.
Usually one to throw harder and harder in times of trouble, Chatwood reversed that trend and leaned more on his off-speed pitches.
Throwing slower made him even more steady.
Chatwood pitched two-hit ball into the eighth inning before exiting after deflecting a comebacker with his pitching hand, Mark Reynolds homered for a third straight game and the Colorado Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 on Sunday.
DENVER (AP) — Once he pitched out of early trouble, Tyler Anderson had an easy time.
Anderson matched a career high with 10 strikeouts, Mark Reynolds homered for the second consecutive game and the Colorado Rockies routed the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-1 on Saturday night.
Desmond reinstated from DL, starts in LF for Rockies
PHOENIX (AP) — The Colorado Rockies have reinstated Ian Desmond from the 10-day disabled list and put him in left field for his season debut Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Rockies signed Desmond to a five-year, $70 million contract in the offseason with the intention of having him play first base. But he fractured his left hand in spring training and had not played since the season began.
Reynolds leads Rockies’ comeback over Diamondbacks
PHOENIX (AP) — Mark Reynolds' days as the Colorado Rockies first baseman appear numbered with Ian Desmond about ready to return from a broken hand.
But Reynolds could very well make manager Bud Black's decision on what to do when Desmond is ready a hard one with the way he has hit the ball this month. And on Saturday night, Reynolds produced again in a key situation.
DENVER (AP) — The signing of Mark Reynolds over the winter pretty much flew under the radar and reasonably so: It was a minor league deal with no guarantee.
An insurance policy then, the Colorado Rockies first baseman has become an integral piece, seamlessly stepping in after Ian Desmond broke his left hand during spring training.
Reynolds is hitting .306 with four homers and a team-best 11 RBIs for the surging Rockies.
DENVER (AP) — Clayton Kershaw left a slider up — gone. Three pitches later, he grooved a fastball — same result.
He just stared at the dirt in disbelief.
The Dodgers ace surrendered back-to-back homers for the first time in his career, with Mark Reynolds and Gerardo Parra going deep in the sixth inning to help the Colorado Rockies beat Los Angeles 4-2 on Saturday night.
Arenado, Reynolds homer, Rockies beat Brewers 2-1
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Nolan Arenado needed a few games to get warmed up after tying for the National League home run title last season with 41.
Arenado led off the ninth inning with his first homer of the season to give the Colorado Rockies the lead in a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Rockies manager Bud Black exchanged high-fives with his players as they streamed off the field and stopped Greg Holland for a few extra seconds to offer encouraging words and a pat on the back.
It was quite the successful Colorado debut for Black and the team's new closer.
Holland picked up a save for the first time since coming back from Tommy John surgery, Mark Reynolds homered and had three RBIs, and the Rockies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-5 in Monday's opener.
Rockies select contract of first baseman Mark Reynolds
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Colorado Rockies have selected the contract of first baseman Mark Reynolds from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Reynolds figures to be the starter at first in the absence of Ian Desmond, who is out with a broken left hand.
