Onetime teen mom, now a teacher, wins US House primary
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A onetime teen mother who became a celebrated teacher defeated a veteran politician Tuesday in the Democratic primary for a U.S. House seat currently held by Rep. Elizabeth Esty, who didn't seek re-election amid criticism of her mishandling of a sexual harassment case in her office.
WATERTOWN, Conn. (AP) — Watertown Republican Rich Dupont says he will participate in the GOP's primary for the 5th congressional district seat.
The manufacturing consultant said Tuesday he's decided to challenge former Meriden Mayor Manny Santos after receiving sufficient delegate support at the May 12 convention. Retired university professor Ruby O'Neill of Southbury also received enough delegate support and has already said she plans to run in the Aug. 14 primary as well.

Former lieutenant governor candidate Mary Glassman has narrowly won the Connecticut Democratic endorsement for the congressional seat currently held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty in a nationally watched race.
WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — Democrats in Connecticut's 5th congressional district will endorse a candidate to replace retiring three-term U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty.
A convention is planned Monday at Crosby High School in Waterbury.
Esty recently announced she would not seek re-election following criticism of her handling of sexual harassment allegations.
Interest in the upcoming 5th Congressional District vacancy is expanding now that U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty of Cheshire conceded that she won’t seek a fourth term, the victim of an abuse and harassment scandal in his Washington office.
