SENEY, Mich. (AP) — Authorities in Michigan's Upper Peninsula have closed a highway because of a large multi-vehicle crash and whiteout conditions.
Michigan State Police said Sunday afternoon that M-28 in the central UP would be closed until further notice. It said the highway was closed between M-77 and M-94, a 25-mile stretch.
Police didn't immediately release details about the crash, but WLUC-TV, citing state police and the Michigan Department of Transportation, reported it was a 13-car pileup.
Freeway closed after human waste spills from truck
ERIE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A freeway in southeastern Michigan just north of the state line with Ohio has been closed after a truck hauling human waste rolled over and spilled its contents along the roadway.
The crash happened about 9:40 a.m. Thursday on northbound Interstate 75 near Monroe County's Erie Township.
The Detroit Free Press reports that Michigan State Police Sgt. Rod Goss said the spill initially was "reported as tar, then it was reported as human waste."
Michigan State Police sued by former internal affairs head
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The former head of internal affairs for the Michigan State Police says she was improperly forced out of her job.
The Detroit Free Press reports that First Lt. Twana Powell sued the department Wednesday in Ingham County Circuit Court.
Powell was both the first woman and first African American to lead the internal affairs unit before retiring in October.

Deputies on paid leave after fatal shooting of Michigan man
LINCOLN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say three central Michigan sheriff's deputies have been put on leave following the fatal shooting of a Clare County man.
Michigan State Police say 42-year-old Robert Reid III died from multiple gunshot wounds last Wednesday, the day the officers responded to a felonious assault complaint in Lincoln Township.
The deputies weren't hurt. They will remain on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Man dies after tractor rolls in southeastern Michigan
EXETER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say an 88-year-old man has died after a tractor rolled onto him while he was cutting grass in southeastern Michigan.
Michigan State Police say James Adam was found under the tractor on Sunday evening in Monroe County's Exeter Township, about 35 miles (56 kilometers) southwest of Detroit.
An investigation found that Adam made a turn before the tractor overturned in a ditch. Neighbors rushed to help, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Michigan man wants apology after sex assault charges cleared
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan man who was cleared of sexual assault charges after spending five months in jail says he hasn't received an apology from police or prosecutors.
Xavier Jujuan Davis was arrested in January in connection to a December sexual assault in Grand Rapids. Davis was cleared of the charges in July after DNA tests from the Michigan State Police lab showed that he didn't match the DNA found at the crime scene.
Pilot dies as single-engine plane crashes in Michigan field

Michigan State Police say the crash Friday afternoon in Monroe County's Frenchtown Township left a 60-year-old man in the van dead at the scene, and a 66-year-old woman later died at a hospital. Except for the driver of the truck, all of those injured were riding in the van, which was carrying seven people with developmental disabilities and two other people.
