Cornelius leads Oklahoma St. past No. 7 West Virginia, 45-41
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius was nearly flawless against Oklahoma last week, only to misfire on a 2-point conversion pass to Tylan Wallace in a one-point loss.
On Saturday, the connection worked. Cornelius threw a touchdown pass to Wallace with 42 seconds remaining and Oklahoma State beat No. 7 West Virginia 45-41.
Okla. St., Brailford faces big challenge against OU’s Murray
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State's Jordan Brailford has enjoyed an outstanding season, ranking among the nation's top 10 in sacks and tackles for loss this season. For the Cowboys to have any hope of upsetting No. 6 Oklahoma on Saturday, the junior defensive end needs another strong outing against elusive quarterback Kyler Murray.
Oklahoma State (5-4, 2-4 Big 12) leads the nation with 33 sacks. Brailford is tied for fourth with nine and ranks sixth with 15.5 tackles for loss per game.

AP Top 25 Takeaways: Before 1st CFP rankings, field trimmed
The last weekend before the College Football Playoff rankings debut shook loose some hopefuls, clearing the clutter before the last month of the season.
No. 9 Florida? Done. No. 18 Iowa? There will be no Hawkeyes run. No. 6 Texas? Now a fringe contender at best after being on the short end of Saturday's most significant upset, and one of eight ranked teams to lose to unranked teams this past weekend.
Cornelius leads Oklahoma State past No. 6 Texas, 38-35
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Taylor Cornelius had received his share of local criticism after Oklahoma State lost two straight contests, with some people calling for him to be pulled from the starting lineup.
But Cornelius rebounded in a big way Saturday night, throwing three touchdown passes and running for two scores, the last with 5:44 remaining, to help Oklahoma State beat No. 6 Texas 38-35.
Defense key in No. 25 Oklahoma St matchup with Iowa State
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — It could come down to defense on Saturday for No. 25 Oklahoma State when the Cowboys face Iowa State at home.
The Cyclones' offense has struggled this season, ranking last in the Big 12 in both scoring and yards this season. Oklahoma State (4-1, 1-1) will unleash the pressure of its potent pass-rush that leads the nation in sacks.
Big workload leads to big production for OSU’s Justice Hill
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy limited running back Justice Hill's workload during the first four games to keep the dynamic playmaker fresh for the heart of the Big 12 schedule.
Hill had just 46 carries before Saturday's 48-28 victory over Kansas, when his workload increased significantly. He responded with a season-high 189 yards and a touchdown on 31 attempts.
Cornelius tosses 4 TDs, leads Oklahoma St past Kansas 48-28
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — After last week's 24-point loss to Texas Tech that knocked them out of the top 25, Oklahoma State came to Kansas on Saturday needing a big win. Almost right away, you could tell that wouldn't be a difficult goal.
Taylor Cornelius passed for 312 yards and four touchdowns, Justice Hill ran for 189 yards and the Cowboys (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) cruised to a 48-28 win over the Jayhawks (2-3, 0-2 Big 12).
WR Jalen McCleskey to transfer out of Oklahoma State
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Wide receiver Jalen McCleskey will sit out the rest of the season as a redshirt and prepare to transfer out of Oklahoma State.
McCleskey had four receptions for 52 yards on Saturday in a 41-17 loss to Texas Tech. He is second on Oklahoma State (3-1, 0-1 Big 12) with 15 receptions for 155 yards and two touchdowns this season.
Texas Tech arrives as Cornelius leads No. 15 Oklahoma St
Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius has made an unexpected impression as a runner.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pound senior looks like he's lumbering his way down the field, but he's tough and surprisingly agile and fast. Last Saturday, he rushed for 41 yards and two touchdowns to help the Cowboys knock off then-No. 17 Boise State 44-21 .
Special teams suddenly a positive for No. 15 Oklahoma State
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Mike Gundy wanted to see improvement on special teams. No. 15 Oklahoma State answered its coach's call.
The Cowboys blocked two punts, returning one for a touchdown, and made three field goals in a 44-21 win over then-No. 17 Boise State on Saturday. That marked a sharp turnaround after losing a fumble the week before on an attempted punt by Matt Hockett, leading to a South Alabama TD in Oklahoma State's 55-13 win.
Cornelius leads No. 24 Oklahoma St. past No. 17 Boise St.
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Finally, Taylor Cornelius has emerged from Mason Rudolph's shadow.
The fifth-year senior ran for two touchdowns and passed for another to help No. 24 Oklahoma State beat No. 17 Boise State 44-21 on Saturday.
Cornelius waited his turn for years behind Rudolph, who now is with the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers. He made the most of his first career start against a ranked opponent.
"It's hard to faze that guy," Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said.
Cornelius continuing to show progress for No. 24 Oklahoma St
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — In his first two career starts, No. 24 Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius has looked pretty good. He is about to face his biggest challenge yet.
Cornelius, a senior who served as the primary backup to Mason Rudolph the previous two seasons, is gaining experience and should improve as the season moves along.
Oklahoma State vows not to overlook South Alabama
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — On paper, it looks like Oklahoma State should not encounter much trouble when hosting South Alabama on Saturday. With a much more challenging contest looming the following week against No. 20 Boise State, it might be easy for the Cowboys to overlook the Jaguars.
Big 12′s older QBs include a 5th-year, 1st-time starter
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy considers Taylor Cornelius something of a dinosaur, and not because his starting quarterback's 23rd birthday is coming up the day after the Cowboys play their third game of the season.
Cornelius arrived on campus as a walk-on in 2014, had a redshirt season and then attempted only 24 passes in nine games over three years while primarily backing up Mason Rudolph. Now, as a fifth-year senior, Cornelius is coming off a victory in his first career start.
Oklahoma State’s new defense off to good start
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Let's not overlook the defense.
Much of the spotlight from Oklahoma State's season-opening 58-17 victory over Missouri State shone on the offense and new quarterback Taylor Cornelius.
But the game also marked the debut of a new defensive coordinator and his new 4-2-5 scheme. And the defense had a fairly successful day, surrendering just 260 yards.
Cornelius throws 5 TDs in 1st start; Oklahoma St. rolls
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius' stat line in his first career start was something to be proud of. Cowboys coach Mike Gundy thought it could have been even better.
Cornelius passed for 295 yards and five touchdowns to help Oklahoma State defeat Missouri State 58-17 on Thursday night. Gundy called the performance "average at best."
"He was more tentative instead of cutting it loose," Gundy said. "He needs to cut it loose. You make a mistake, you make a mistake."
QB Taylor Cornelius prepares for 1st start for Oklahoma St
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius' long wait is almost over.
The 6-foot-6 redshirt senior is set for his first career start in the Cowboys' season opener next Thursday against Missouri State.
"He's been great on the driving range," Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said. "He hasn't been on the first tee. He'll get on the tee Thursday night, and we'll find out where he's at."
Oklahoma St. reloads at receiver with Washington gone
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy doesn't want to focus on the Cowboys receivers who have moved on to the NFL.
He thinks there are still some pretty good ones on campus.
OSU football: Oklahoma State hires Duke defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, former OSU defensive end Greg Richmond as assistants, as well as 4 other coaches
After three weeks of silence since making a change at defensive coordinator, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy announced six staff additions Monday night — including a defensive coordinator from the ACC.
Jim Knowles, who spent the last eight seasons as the defensive coordinator at Duke, will join the OSU staff, Gundy announced via Twitter.
Knowles, 52, is a Philadelphia native who played defensive end at Cornell. Prior to working at Duke from 2010-17, he was the head coach at Cornell from 2004-09.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State has fired defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer.
Spencer joined the staff as defensive line coach in 2008 and was elevated to defensive coordinator in 2013. In a statement released Thursday, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said he was "very appreciative for the 10 years of loyal service that Glenn Spencer gave to Oklahoma State."
Oklahoma State's offenses have been outstanding the past several years, but its defenses have lagged behind.

Clash of styles: Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech to square off
Mike Gundy and Justin Fuente have plenty in common. They were both born in Oklahoma. Both were recruited by Oklahoma State. And both had virtually the same assessment of what awaits them in the Camping World Bowl.
Virginia Tech’s Bud Foster thinks Oklahoma State’s offense might be best he’s ever faced
BLACKSBURG – Bud Foster feels like he has a pretty solid handle on what Oklahoma State does offensively, and what his Hokies need to do to slow down the Cowboys.
Going into this week’s match-up with No. 19 OSU in the Camping World Bowl in Orlando, Fla., Foster said Mike Gundy’s offense does pretty much everything well.
OSU football: Once a question mark, Matt Ammendola’s kicking has become a strength for Oklahoma State
STILLWATER — No place-kicker was more accurate than Matt Ammendola in the month of November.
Some may have matched him, but it was mathematically impossible to be better. The sophomore made all eight of his field-goal attempts and all 23 of his extra points over OSU’s final four games in the last month of the regular season.
“I think he’s just relaxed and kicking better,” coach Mike Gundy said.
OSU football: Life without Mason Rudolph and James Washington next season starting to sink in
STILLWATER -- After parading around the Home Depot College Football Awards ceremony this week with his players, the realization finally hit Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy.
That quarterback Mason Rudolph and wide receiver James Washington -- the cornerstones of OSU football for the last four years -- would no longer be around following the Camping World Bowl.
Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy, himself a high school football hero, recruited Tech’s Justin Fuente
There’s no shortage of familiarity between Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy and the Virginia Tech football staff. Gundy played college football as a teammate of Hokies’ offensive line coach Vance Vice with the Cowboys. He worked on a staff at OSU with Tech offensive coordinator Brad Cornelsen.
But maybe the most intriguing tie between the Cowboys coach and his opponent in the Dec. 28 Camping World Bowl — Gundy recruited Hokies coach Justin Fuente as a high school prospect in Oklahoma.
OSU football recruiting: Oklahoma State set for big group of visitors this weekend, including 3 anticipated January enrollees
When the Collegiate Commissioners Association approved the creation of an early signing period for football on May 8, it disrupted the rhythm and timeline of the typical recruiting cycle for coaches and prospective players.
Oklahoma State will make a rare bowl trip to Florida this year.
The Cowboys (9-3) will be in search of their third consecutive 10-win season, something that has never happened in the history of the program, when they face Virginia Tech in the Camping World Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 28.
It will mark just the fourth occasion OSU would have participated in a bowl matchup in Florida.
OSU football: Mike Gundy talks Tennessee rumors in radio interview: ‘It got blown way out of proportion’

Speaking with ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM, Gundy said he Oklahoma State “is a great place for me” and that he wishes “things like that wouldn’t happen.”
Bill Haisten: At 5-0 against big-money coaches, Lincoln Riley could get a new contract
ARLINGTON, Texas — There are two ties that bind Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, Texas’ Tom Herman, Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy and TCU’s Gary Patterson.
First, they are among the wealthiest coaches in college football. Meyer’s 2017 pay is $6.4 million. Herman and Patterson are beyond $5 million.
On Friday, Gundy was elevated from $4.2 million in 2017 to a jaw-dropping $5 million in 2018. It was a stunning, unexpected increase because the honest assessment of the 2017 Cowboys is they underachieved.
Mike Gundy gets pay raise after Tennessee interest
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Mike Gundy, who affirmed his commitment to Oklahoma State this week following reported interest from Tennessee, is getting a raise.
The Oklahoma State football coach tweeted "Cowboy For Life" earlier this week after he was linked to the Vols' open job. And on Friday, the Oklahoma State/A&M Board of Regents approved an addendum to Gundy's contract that includes a $675,000 pay increase, bumping his salary to $5 million per year.
KNOXVILLE — Tennessee's rocky search for a new head coach continues.
The Vols made a hard push after a new candidate Tuesday, Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy, who the Vols had previously targeted during the previous search in 2013.
He gave UT the same answer this time around: no.
Gundy and Tennessee athletic director John Currie met on Tuesday in Dallas, according to multiple reports, after Gundy and former Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning talked about the position last week.
OSU football analysis: A look at the likely bowl destinations for the Cowboys
STILLWATER — Mike Gundy wasn’t sure where Oklahoma State would go bowling Saturday night.
But since OSU’s resume — and regular season — is complete, it’s worth taking a look.
The Cowboys finished 9-3 for the second consecutive season. They finished third in the Big 12 after coming in second a year ago.
A look at the Cowboys’ bowl possibilities, from most likely to least (in our opinion):
