Mitsubishi recalls 161,167 vehicles in US, Canada
DETROIT (AP) — Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is recalling 161,167 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada because electric relays can cause the engine to stall or overheat.
The recall affects the 2015-2017 Outlander SUV, the 2015-2017 Lancer sedan and Outlander Sport, and the 2015 Lancer Evolution sport sedan. Most are in the U.S. but 28,615 are in Canada.
Mitsubishi says it has no reports of accidents or injuries related to the defect, which can also reduce power to the engine.
Stock markets slide as tech earnings underwhelm
HONG KONG (AP) — Global stocks slid on Friday as underwhelming earnings from Amazon and Twitter weighed on technology companies.
KEEPING SCORE: France's CAC 40 lost 1.2 percent to 5,124 and Germany's DAX shed 0.5 percent to 12,152. Britain's FTSE 100 fell 0.7 percent to 7,388. Wall Street was poised to open lower. Dow futures were down 0.1 percent and broader S&P 500 futures sank 0.3 percent.
TOKYO (AP) — The alliance of Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co. and Renault SA of France led in global vehicle sales for the first half of this year, the first time it has claimed top rank.
The Nissan-Renault alliance, which includes Mitsubishi Motors Corp., sold 5,268,079 vehicles around the world in January-June.
That was more than Volkswagen AG at 5,155,600, and Japanese rival Toyota Motor Corp., which said Friday it sold 5,129,000 vehicles in the first half.
Japanese Nissan executive tapped to replace Ghosn as CEO
TOKYO (AP) — Carlos Ghosn, who leads the Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi alliance, is handing over the helm at Nissan to Hiroto Saikawa, a veteran Japanese executive at Nissan, but Ghosn is staying on as chairman.
Saikawa will become chief executive at Nissan Motor Co., based in Yokohama, effective April 1, and up for shareholders' approval in June, the company said Thursday.
