OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — A man has been arrested and charged in an Alabama shooting death last March.
Opelika police told news outlets that 32-year-old Moses Marques Edwards was arrested earlier this week and charged in the shooting death of 37-year-old Nathaniel Gibson.
Police were called to a shooting reported March 30 and found Gibson, who was taken to a local hospital and then flown to a Birmingham hospital, where he died.

1 person hurt in small plane crash in Alabama
OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — One person has been hurt when a single-engine plane crashed into some woods in Alabama.
News outlets reported three people were on the plane when it came down near Interstate 85 near Opelika around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Opelika Fire Chief Byron Prather said there were no serious injuries. One person was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The other two people on the plane were not hurt. Their names have not been released.

Markale Hart pleaded guilty to manslaughter during a hearing in Opelika on Friday.
Hart was charged with murder in the December 2014 gunshot killing of Mitchell, a freshman. He was shot to during a party at apartments in Auburn.

State legislator George Bandy dies

Alabama House of Representatives spokesman Clay Redden said Bandy died Tuesday at a Georgia hospital. He was 72.

Opelika police said in a news release that 38-year-old Travis C. Ford was taken into custody on Monday afternoon and charged with murder in the death of 31-year-old April Billingsley.

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — Quinton Walton, a 92-year old Army Air Corps veteran, watched with pride as his new American flag was raised in his front yard Friday afternoon in Opelika.
Walton was drafted into the Army in 1942 at the age of 18 and served for four years in WWII. He was an engineer on a B-24 plane and traveled throughout the South Pacific.
He has been married for 73 years and has three children, whom he taught and raised to respect the flag.
Fourth child dies from Opelika house fire
OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — A coroner says a fourth child has died after being injured in a house fire in Opelika earlier this month.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris says 3-year-old Bryson Core died from complications of his injuries Friday night in a hospital in Birmingham.
The boy was hurt in a blaze that engulfed a house in Opelika on Jan. 12. Three young sisters died in the fire, and two other children were taken to a hospital by helicopter for treatment.

Alabama man charged with killing black bear that caused stir

The bear was killed in the Talladega National Forest in Clay County, and a Talladega man faces charges for killing the animal, Capt. Johnny Johnson with the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries told the Opelika-Auburn News on Thursday.
