Hellickson, Nationals finalize $1.3M contract
WASHINGTON (AP) — Right-hander Jeremy Hellickson and the Washington Nationals have finalized their $1.3 million, one-year contract, a deal that allows him to earn $4 million in performance bonuses for starts.
The 31-year-old was 5-3 with a 3.45 ERA in 19 starts for Washington last season, when he earned just over $2.9 million, including $1.1 million in bonuses.
Diamondbacks prepare for life without Goldschmidt
PHOENIX (AP) — For the first time in years, the Arizona Diamondbacks begin spring training without Paul Goldschmidt as the quiet, powerful anchor of the team.
A.J. Pollock and Patrick Corbin won't be there, either.
Times are changing for the Diamondbacks, who have significant holes to fill, to say the least.
AP source: Nationals, Hellickson agree to $1.3M for 2019
WASHINGTON (AP) — Right-hander Jeremy Hellickson and the Washington Nationals have agreed in principle to a $1.3 million, one-year contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the deal was subject to a successful physical exam.
The 31-year-old Hellickson could earn up to $4 million more in performance bonuses, based on the number of games he starts.
Anibal Sanchez deal with Nats includes bonuses for starts

Nationals again boost rotation, agree to deal with Sanchez
WASHINGTON (AP) — Anibal Sanchez has a new team and his same catcher.
The Washington Nationals agreed to terms on a two-year, $19 million contract with right-hander Anibal Sanchez on Thursday.
The deal includes a team option for 2021.
Sanchez, 34, will add depth to Washington's new-look rotation after boosting his appeal with a comeback season for NL East rival Atlanta. The Nationals signed Patrick Corbin to a six-year deal earlier this month.
Sanchez said the two-year deal was important at his age.

Morton to Rays and a Tanner-for-Tanner trade at meetings
LAS VEGAS (AP) — An All-Star starter to the relief-reliant Rays, a Tanner-for-Tanner trade and a Scott Boras sighting. Intrigue at the winter meetings, but not much impact.
Not yet, anyway.
Charlie Morton was the top name to switch teams Wednesday, joining Tampa Bay for a $30 million, two-year deal after going 15-3 with Houston last season. Reliever Jeurys Familia returned to the New York Mets after they traded him away and first baseman Justin Bour headed to the Los Angeles Angels.
A trade of Tanners: Nats send Roark to Reds for Rainey
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tanner Roark figured he would be pitching in Washington's star-studded rotation next year alongside Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg and newcomer Patrick Corbin.
Instead, he found himself part of the majors' first Tanner-for-Tanner trade, headed to the rebuilding Reds. Cincinnati acquired him for fellow right-hander Tanner Rainey on Wednesday during the winter meetings.
As winter meetings arrive, a look at the top MLB free agents
Paul Goldschmidt and Robinson Cano have already switched teams this offseason, going to the Cardinals and Mets in major trades.
As for Manny Machado and Bryce Harper — the jewels of the free agent market — they're still waiting.
Patrick Corbin and Josh Donaldson are already signed, but there are plenty of significant free agents still available heading into the winter meetings this week. The market appears less sluggish than a year ago, and Machado and Harper will remain focal points.
Nats GM: Corbin, Harper ‘independent’; owner thinks OF gone

PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have put four of their five starting pitchers on the roster for Wednesday night's National League wild-card game against the Colorado Rockies.
