Brady finds plenty of targets in 27-20 win over Texans
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tom Brady didn't have any trouble finding receivers to throw to in the New England Patriots' opener.
The reigning NFL MVP completed passes to eight players in a 27-20 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday, connecting with Rob Gronkowski and Phillip Dorsett for seven receptions and a touchdown apiece.
Brady, Gronk open season with 27-20 win over Texans
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski sent New England fans into a panic this offseason when they hinted at retiring rather than returning to the Patriots in 2018.
On Sunday, it was the rest of the NFL watching in fear.
Dorsett thinks Pats are OK at wide receiver
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Phillip Dorsett has a message for anyone who thinks the New England Patriots don't have enough talent at wide receiver with Julian Edelman suspended for the first four games of the season.
"I think we're ready to go," Dorsett said Thursday as his team gets ready for Sunday's opener against the Houston Texans.
"We've got a lot of guys, a lot of playmakers, not just in the receiving room, but in the running back room, the tight ends room.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tom Brady has thrown touchdown passes to many receivers during his 18 NFL seasons. He'll likely be adding new names to the list.
The Patriots receiving corps took a hit this offseason: the trade of Brandin Cooks to the Rams; the free-agency departure of Danny Amendola to Miami; and Julian Edelman's suspension for the first four games for a drug-policy violation.
Phillip Dorsett for a limited workload against the Chiefs, the Patriots may have no choice but to give the wide receiver much more responsibility today against the Saints.
Dorsett was in a tough spot a couple weeks ago, having just three practices to prepare for Kansas City. As such, he only played 18 snaps (22.2 percent) — his lowest output since his rookie season with the Colts in 2015 — and didn’t catch any passes.
Patriots put WR Mitchell on injured reserve, sign OL Karras
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The Patriots have placed receiver Malcolm Mitchell on injured reserve.
New England announced the move Thursday, about two hours before kicking off its season opener against the Chiefs. In addition, the Patriots signed offensive lineman Ted Karras to the 53-man roster.
New Patriots receiver Dorsett eager to jump in after trade
FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (AP) — The Patriots got through the preseason virtually unscathed before star receiver Julian Edelman sustained a season-ending knee injury a week before the last exhibition game.
Without one of Tom Brady's favorite options, coach Bill Belichick could have filled the roster spot with one of the rookies who had impressed the coaching staff during training camp.

FOXBORO — Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett has the necessary tools to be successful in Josh McDaniels’ offensive scheme.
FOXBORO — Not too long ago, Jimmy Garoppolo looked more like the quarterback who was going to be used in a trade by the Patriots, not Jacoby Brissett.
There was a king’s ransom available for him. The Browns were ready, willing and able to make a trade for the backup QB, only Belichick had other ideas.
NFL more fun with trades, and Patriots, Seahawks and Browns helping lead charge
Remember when the NFL might make 15 trades in a season, never mind in one whirlwind 48-hour period like the one to kick off Labor Day weekend?
We can, although why bother, because this brave new NFL world is a lot more fun to live in.
Patriots trade Brissett, add depth to set 53-man roster
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The Patriots parted with a young quarterback, and added a young receiver, defensive end and cornerback to help set their 53-man roster for the start of the regular season.
Probably New England's biggest move Saturday was trading third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for receiver Phillip Dorsett.
Colts activate Luck, make trade amid flurry of roster moves
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts have activated Andrew Luck from the physically unable to perform list and traded 2015 first-round draft Phillip Dorsett to the New England Patriots.
The moves came on a busy Saturday when the Colts trimmed their roster from 90 to 53 players.
Luck had been on PUP since late July, making him ineligible to practice. It's still unlikely he will play in next Sunday's season opener.
Dorsett was sent to the Patriots for backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Colts’ Luck appears ready to play behind revamped line
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Andrew Luck was a full participant at Friday's practice and is expected to start Sunday when the Colts visit Minnesota.
His offensive line again will not be at full strength after coach Chuck Pagano ruled out right guard Denzelle Good (concussion) and backup Joe Reitz (back). Pagano also said defensive tackle Art Jones (groin) and receiver Donte Moncrief (hamstring) won't play.
NFL byes began last week, but with just two teams — the Eagles and Packers — taking a break, the impact was minimal.
Sure owners missed Aaron Rodgers, Eddie Lacy and Jordan Matthews, but the list of players on bye this week is much more staggering.
Allen Robinson, Blake Bortles, Jeremy Maclin, Drew Brees, Mark Ingram and Russel Wilson are just some of the fantasy stars who will be kicking up their feet this Sunday as the Jaguars, Chiefs, Saints and Seahawks all rest up.
Jaguars survive late Colts rally, win 30-27 in London
LONDON (AP) — Finally, the Jacksonville Jaguars didn't let one slip away.
The team that leads the NFL in surrendered leads since 2014 pulled out a gutsy 30-27 victory Sunday over the Indianapolis Colts despite conceding three fourth-quarter touchdowns to Andrew Luck and Frank Gore.
Colts lose Donte Moncrief for 4-6 weeks with shoulder injury
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Colts receiver Phillip Dorsett may be about to get his first big opportunity in the NFL.
The 2015 first-round draft pick will be asked to play a much bigger role over the next month — and perhaps longer — after learning No. 2 receiver Donte Moncrief will miss four to six weeks with a fractured left shoulder blade.
Moncrief was injured in the first quarter of Sunday's loss at Denver and did not return, another big blow for a team already hit hard by injuries.

Colts need Dorsett, Moncrief to come up big in new offense
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Donte Moncrief and Phillip Dorsett have a clear mission this season: Become consistent, quality receivers.
The Colts' playoff hopes may depend on it.
"We've got to step up and make plays," Moncrief said. "We have to help out T.Y. (Hilton)."
