Authorities identify driver killed in wrong-way crash
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a speeding wrong-way driver who was killed when he collided with another vehicle on a southern New Jersey roadway and struck a utility pole.
Pleasantville police say Robert Gonzalez Jr. went through a red light on Main Street and sideswiped another car around 11:30 p.m. Monday. The 42-year-old Atlantic City man then began traveling east in the westbound lanes of Delilah Road before he lost control of the car and hit the pole.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities in New Jersey say a man who shot another male in the face just outside of Atlantic City was found dead.
The Atlantic County prosecutor's office says police were called to a Pleasantville home shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday and found a male with a gunshot wound to the face. A handgun believed used in the shooting was recovered.

MAYS LANDIJNG, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey woman has admitted stealing more than $140,000 in state pension benefits that were paid to her mother for eight years after she died.
Diana Heil pleaded guilty Friday to theft. The state Attorney General's office will recommend the 49-year-old Pleasantville resident receive a 364-day county jail term when she's sentenced March 8, and she also must pay full restitution.
Man shot, wounded on consecutive days in New Jersey city
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a southern New Jersey man was shot and wounded in separate incidents that occurred on consecutive days in the same city, but he wasn't seriously injured in either shooting.
Pleasantville police say the first shooting occurred early Sunday afternoon, when Mark Fuller was hit once in the back with what authorities described as a "projectile of some type." The 19-year-old Atlantic City man was treated at a hospital and released later that day.

Authorities say the victim had called Pleasantville police Friday night to tell officers he was being followed by another vehicle.
The man then met officers in front of the police station and gave them details about the vehicle.
MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man who killed a woman and left her body in a suitcase in the woods 4½ years ago has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter.
Thirty-one-year-old Steven Stallworth of Pleasantville also pleaded guilty Monday to desecrating human remains in the death of 30-year-old Tara Alicea.
Atlantic County prosecutors say the Monroeville resident's body had been found by a hunter in January 2014 in the woods of Egg Harbor Township.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Several residents were evacuated when a fire broke out at a southern New Jersey apartment complex, but authorities say no injuries were reported.
The fire broke out around 5 a.m. Tuesday in a unit at the Pleasantville site. It heavily damaged that upper-floor apartment and also caused some damage to neighboring apartments before it was brought under control.
Four adults and three children were evacuated from two nearby apartments as a precaution.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Officials say a New Jersey man is dead and two others have been wounded in a shooting not far from the seaside gambling resort of Atlantic City.
Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said Sunday in a statement that 29-yeaer-old Josue Demosthenes died after he was shot multiple times in Pleasantville.
Tyner says a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were also shot in the incident. They were all taken an Atlantic City hospital, where Demosthenes was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the male suspect targeted a Pleasantville home twice on May 23. Police say the unidentified man used a handgun and assaulted a resident at the house during the second home invasion.

Police say a person walking on the beach on Thursday discovered the body of 15-year-old Ramon Quinn, of Pleasantville.

The agency said the search, which went on through the night, was halted at 11 a.m. Friday.

Bridgette Rooks began a frantic search in her Atlantic City neighborhood. Her 34-year-old son, Garry Williams, wasn't responding to her texts.
She found police on a street corner. They didn't see the blood, but Rooks did, she said.
Then she saw her son dead in a nearby alley.
On Feb. 22, 2016, Rooks joined the growing pool of South Jersey mothers who have lost children to gun violence.
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say three teenage boys robbed a taxi driver at gunpoint and drove off in the vehicle after he fled.
Hamilton Township police say the driver picked up the teens around 1:45 a.m. Sunday in Pleasantville and drove them to Mays Landing. One teen then allegedly pointed a handgun at the driver's head and demanded money.
The driver soon ran off and the teens drove away. But police soon found the taxi and located three teens who matched the suspects' description.
Flat tire ends police pursuit of stolen car; 3 teens charged
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — A police pursuit of a stolen car that allegedly was used in a weekend robbery ended with a flat tire and the arrests of three teenagers.
Authorities say the pursuit began late Monday morning when an officer spotted the car in Pleasantville and tried to stop the vehicle. But they say the 16-year-old Atlantic City boy driving the car instead sped away.
The brief chase ended on the Atlantic City Expressway when the driver had to stop due to a flat tire.
Car hits bus on Atlantic City Expressway, 1 dead
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — One person is dead after a car hit a New Jersey Transit bus on the Atlantic City Expressway.
State Police Sgt. Jeff Flynn says the driver of a Honda rear-ended the bus around 5 a.m. Monday in the westbound lanes near milepost 3.6 in Pleasantville. The name of the motorist has not been released.
Woman crashes minivan into southern New Jersey home
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Police are investigating after a woman crashed her minivan into a southern New Jersey townhouse over the weekend, decimating the residence's first floor.
The incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday in Pleasantville.
Police say the driver was attempting to maneuver into a parking space when she accidentally hit reverse and sent her van speeding into the dining room of a nearby home.

Man out on bail in highway shootout arrested on drug charges
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a man out on bail who was charged in connection to a fatal shootout on the Atlantic City Expressway has been arrested on drug charges.
Pleasantville police said Wilbert Demosthenes was arrested and charged on Wednesday with possession of 47 grams of items believed to be heroin and cocaine.
Demosthenes was out on $250,000 bail in connection to the Aug. 29 shooting on the Atlantic City Expressway that left 22-year-old Rosemond Octavius dead.
Authorities seek motive for deadly Pleasantville shooting
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a man who was shot to death on a street in Atlantic County.
But a motive for Saturday's shooting in Pleasantville remains under investigation.
Police responding to a 911 call about being shots fired found 29-year-old Rasheed Hines around 5:10 p.m. Saturday in the area of Linden and Merion avenues. The Egg Harbor City man was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later.
