Keys, Collins among US Fed Cup team vs Australia
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — No. 17 Madison Keys and No. 23 Danielle Collins will lead the U.S. Fed Cup team against Australia next month.
Sofia Kenin and Nicole Melichar will join them on the team announced Wednesday by the U.S. Tennis Association and team captain Kathy Rinaldi. The 25-year-old Collins recently reached her first Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open.
The first round of the World Group will be held Feb. 9-10 in Asheville, North Carolina.
Top seed Svitolina advances to 2nd round at Hong Kong
HONG KONG (AP) — Top-seeded Elina Svitolina kept alive her chances of reaching the WTA Finals in Singapore by beating Australian wild card Priscilla Hon 6-2, 6-3 at the Hong Kong Open on Tuesday.
Fourth-seeded Garbine Muguruza gave herself a belated birthday present by defeated Spanish compatriot Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-3, 6-1.
Bertens, Minella advance to quarterfinals at Korea Open
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Second-seeded Kiki Bertens advanced to the quarterfinals of the rain-hit Korea Open by beating Dalila Jakupovic 6-4, 7-5 Thursday.
Bertens broke the Slovenian player's serve at 5-5 in the second set and held in the next game.
Also, Mandy Minella beat Australian qualifier Priscilla Hon 6-4, 6-3. The 20-year-old Hon was trying to make it to the Seoul quarterfinals for the second straight year as a qualifier.
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Alex Di Minaur will make his French Open debut after being granted a wild-card entry into Roland Garros by Tennis Australia on Thursday.
It came under a reciprocal arrangement with the French tennis federation. The 18-year-old Di Minaur joins fellow Australians Nick Kyrgios, Bernard Tomic, Jordan Thompson, John Millman and Thanasi Kokkinakis in the main draw.
