The White House announced Friday that Trump approved the disaster declaration for the U.S. territory in order to free up funding.

HONOLULU (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 6 earthquake struck waters west of Samoa and American Samoa. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The agency said Monday the earthquake was centered 220 miles west of Apia, Samoa, and 290 miles west of Pago Pago, American Samoa.
The quake struck at a depth of 6 miles (10 kilometers) shortly before 8 a.m. in American Samoa.
Mormon missionary serving in Samoa fatally struck by vehicle
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a Mormon missionary serving in Samoa is dead after being struck by a vehicle.
A spokesman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City says 21-year-old Aaron Ahkau Matapa Patiole was walking with a companion in Upolu when he was fatally struck Sunday.
Patiole was a native of Australia and had been serving in the Samoa Apia Mission since last December 2016.

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (AP) — American Samoa's longest-serving non-voting delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives, Eni H. Faleomavaega, has died. He was 73.
His sister-in-law, Therese Hunkin, didn't disclose how the former 13-term delegate died Wednesday but said he was at his home in Provo, Utah.
"He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and a few close friends," Hunkin said in a brief phone interview from Provo.

Gordon Tietjens appointed as Samoa sevens coach
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Samoa announced the appointment of former long-serving New Zealand head coach Gordon Tietjens as its national rugby sevens coach on Friday.
The 60-year-old Tietjens retired the New Zealand role after the Rio de Janiero Olympics. Tietjens coached New Zealand coach for 22 years, from 1994 to 2016, winning 12 world titles and four Commonwealth Games gold medals.
New Zealand's poor performance at Rio, where it failed to win a medal, hastened his decision to quit.
