SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — A fire that roared through downtown Sandpoint, Idaho, has destroyed numerous businesses.
The city of Sandpoint Facebook page reports that the fire began at about 1 a.m. Monday along North First Avenue, the main street through downtown.
The Spokesman-Review says video and pictures of the fire show it burning a group of businesses along First Avenue, including The Hound and China Kitchen restaurants and the Chocolate Bear.

Authorities say two adults in the Sandpoint home escaped early Saturday's fire through a window. By the time firefighters were able to reach the toddler, he was dead in his upstairs bedroom.

The Bonner County Daily Bee reports that 42-year-old Samantha Sue Wasylko of Sagle pleaded not guilty Monday in 1st District Court to felony grand theft.
Authorities say Wasylko pocketed cash receipts at Pend Oreille Midwifery where she worked as an office manager.
Orchard is site of new University of Idaho organic center
SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — An orchard in Sandpoint will be the site of the University of Idaho's new Sandpoint Organic Agriculture Center.
The orchard was donated Aug. 1 to the university by Dennis Pence and his family, the Capital Press reported .
It is the first center in the institution's system to focus on organic farming and production systems, according to the college.
Love, murder bind children of man killed in northern Idaho

Advocacy group raises concerns on planned railway bridge
SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — An additional railway bridge across Lake Pend Oreille in northern Idaho would double rail traffic, increasing the chances of derailments of crude oil and coal shipments, a water advocacy group said.
Food and Wine magazine recently listed its picks for the top coffee shop in every state, plus one or two runner-ups.
For Washington state, all of the recommendations were on the west side.
