NEW YORK (AP) — Mets right-hander Seth Lugo has a partially torn ligament in his pitching elbow, but has not decided whether he will have Tommy John surgery.
Lugo had a platelet-rich plasma injection Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery and will not throw for about two weeks. New York said he will then start a throwing program, and the need for surgery will be determined based on how he feels after trying rehabilitation.
Gsellman seems to have earned spot on Mets’ pitching staff
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Whatever his role, it looks as if right-hander Robert Gsellman has earned on spot on the New York Mets' pitching staff.
The 23-year-old Gsellman struck out six in six innings Tuesday against St. Louis in a late audition to make the team.
Asked if he expected Gsellman would begin the season at Triple-A Las Vegas, Mets manager Terry Collins responded, "I would not."
