Illinois tax penalty waivers available in storm-hit county
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Residents and businesses impacted by severe weather and tornadoes this month in central Illinois' Christian County may request waivers of penalties and interest on state taxes if they can't file their returns or make payments on time.
The waivers apply to individual and business income taxes, withholding taxes, sales taxes, and specialty and excise taxes.

Meteorologists in Arkansas have confirmed that at least three tornadoes developed from severe thunderstorms on Friday night.
The National Weather Service said Sunday that a strong tornado touched down in Van Buren, Arkansas, about 130 miles (212 kilometers) northwest of Little Rock. The tornado was rated an EF2, which indicates wind speeds as high as 135 mph.

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago man has a chance to get out of jail after a judge vacated his 1997 conviction on arson and murder charges.
DuPage County Judge Liam Brennan on Thursday set bail at $100,000 for 60-year-old William Amor, who was serving a 45-year prison sentence in his mother-in-law's death. The judge on April 6 vacated Amor's convictions, citing advances in fire science, and ordered a new trial.

Residents who live within the Taylorville School District are being asked to pay an additional 85 cents per $100 of net assessed value of each individual's property to help provide funding for the district.
