Memphis singer, songwriter John Kilzer dies suddenly
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — John Kilzer, a singer and songwriter from Tennessee whose music career spanned 30 years and who became a pastor after undergoing drug recovery, has died.
Patricia Clarkson, Mario Lopez in pre-Mardi Gras parades
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans-born actress Patricia Clarkson, "Supernatural" star Jensen Ackles and "ExtraTV" host Mario Lopez are among the stars headlining New Orleans parades leading up to Mardi Gras.
The Krewe of Muses says Clarkson is the first person to serve twice as Honorary Muse — someone considered a role model for the city's women and girls. Clarkson won Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards this month. The Muses roll on Feb. 28.

The Oklahoma Football Facebook account, on Friday, showed a video of Riley (a former quarterback) lining up a 20-yard field goal and then kicking a ball (straight on, not soccer style) which carried inside the right upright. (There were no hints on how many takes it took).

The other day while working on my computer I heard a video on TV that got my attention. It was a song by country artist Trace Adkins titled "Still a Soldier." It's a powerful ballad about a man who at one time had served in the Army.
It's a great song and the video shows the man, now home. His life includes a wife, son and another child on the way. He has a house, a 9-to-5 job and, of course, a pickup truck. There is happiness but deep down he's still a soldier and always will be.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee songwriter Lee Thomas Miller is dropping out of the race for the Republican nomination to succeed Rep. Marsha Blackburn in Congress.
Miller announced Monday he was ending his 7th District campaign about a month after launching it because running for office was causing him to "compromise" himself.
Miller is a three-time Grammy nominee who has written songs for Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Jamey Johnson and Chris Stapleton.
Country music star Trace Adkins to lead Centaur parade
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Country music star Trace Adkins will serve as grand marshal for the Krewe of Centaur's 2018 Mardi Gras parade in Shreveport.
Multiple media outlets report Wednesday that Adkins, a native of Sarepta, Louisiana, will ride on Saturday, Feb. 8, in the parade with the theme "Centaur Goes to the Library."

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (AP) — Songwriter Lee Thomas Miller announced Tuesday that he is joining the race for the Republican nomination to succeed Rep. Marsha Blackburn in Congress.
Miller has written songs for Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Jamey Johnson and Chris Stapleton. The three-time Grammy nominee is the son of a Kentucky tobacco farmer and a small town librarian who lives in Brentwood with his wife Jana and four children.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The annual July Fourth concert near the U.S. Capitol will include an appearance by two droids who fought for independence in a galaxy far, far away.
The two "Star Wars" characters will be on stage Tuesday evening while the National Symphony Orchestra plays John Williams' music from the beloved sci-fi movie. The performance will celebrate the 40th anniversary of "Star Wars," which was released in 1977.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Actor John Stamos will host the annual July Fourth concert outside the U.S. Capitol — and pull double duty as the drummer for the Beach Boys.
Organizers of the concert announced the lineup Tuesday. The Beach Boys will perform with Stamos on drums and guest vocals from Mark McGrath.
Ricky Skaggs, Chris Stapleton honored by ASCAP
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Grammy-winning bluegrass and country artist Ricky Skaggs and bluegrass singer-turned-country star Chris Stapleton were honored at the ASCAP Country Music Awards on Monday night.
The performing rights organization honored their top country writers and singers during an awards show on Halloween night at the Ryman Auditorium featuring performances by Garth Brooks, Kelsea Ballerini and Trace Adkins.
The Spokane County Interstate Fair kicks off on Friday at the Expo Center, 404 N. Havana St., and this year’s music lineup includes a handful of big names.
