Well-traveled QB Gardner Minshew hoping to find NFL home
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Gardner Minshew carved his own meandering path from walk-on to NFL prospect.
He began as a walk-on at Troy, took a sharp left to junior college, bounced over to East Carolina, made a beeline toward Alabama and finally ended with one terrific final season at Washington State.
"I kind of took the long way around," Minshew said Tuesday.

But right before the show started it was announced that Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa won the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.
The last five winners of the Walter Camp have gone on to win the Heisman, but only five Heisman winners have failed to win AP Player of the Year since the award started in 1998.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Once No. 7 West Virginia's offense found a rhythm, the Mountaineers imposed their will on TCU.
West Virginia scored three touchdowns in a 3:25 span late in the second quarter to break open a tie game and propel the Mountaineers to a 47-10 victory over the Horned Frogs on Saturday.
Will Grier had touchdown throws of 32, 8 and 4 yards, the eighth time this season he's had at least three. Grier finished 25 of 39 for 343 yards on a breezy day.

Grier's four turnovers overshadowed a four-touchdown performance in No. 9 West Virginia's 38-22 victory over Kansas on Saturday.
West Virginia (5-0, 3-0 Big 12) has won its first five games for the second time in three seasons.
"We'll take the sloppy win and go home," Holgorsen said.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia's Gary Jennings slammed the door on all those jokes at his expense about his lack of scoring a year ago.
The senior is more than making up for it so far in 2018.
Jennings caught three touchdown passes from Will Grier to lead No. 14 West Virginia to a 52-17 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday night.
"It feels great," Jennings said. "And the win feels even better."
Big 12′s older QBs include a 5th-year, 1st-time starter
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy considers Taylor Cornelius something of a dinosaur, and not because his starting quarterback's 23rd birthday is coming up the day after the Cowboys play their third game of the season.
Cornelius arrived on campus as a walk-on in 2014, had a redshirt season and then attempted only 24 passes in nine games over three years while primarily backing up Mason Rudolph. Now, as a fifth-year senior, Cornelius is coming off a victory in his first career start.
