MONTEREY, Mass. (AP) _ Four people survived a small plane crash that killed three of their relatives in the snowy mountains of southwestern Massachusetts, state police said Monday.

``It’s quite a miracle that four people were able to survive,″ State Police Sgt. David Paine said.

Authorities said the survivors were taken to Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The plane, with a New Hampshire family of seven on board, was spotted at midday in the Beartown State Forest near the Connecticut and New York state lines.

Searchers had been combing the area for any sign of the single-engine Piper Cherokee Six since flight controllers lost radio contact Sunday evening.

The Keene, N.H.-area family, including five children, had been flying home after a visit in Pennsylvania, State Police Lt. Paul Maloney said. He declined to reveal their names.
