Marganelle Henry, Mayor Tom Henry’s mother, dies

August 7, 2018

Marganelle Henry, mother of Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry, has died.

Henry, 89, died at home Monday morning, her son Jerry Henry Jr. confirmed.

“I’m still in shock,” Henry Jr., her oldest son, said. “She was the best mom ever. She was completely selfless.”

Henry Jr. is the eldest of Henry’s 17 children. Despite having such a large family, Henry Jr. said his mom had enough love for all of her kids. Henry was married for 59 years to Jerry Henry, Sr., who died in 2008.

“Nobody felt slighted,” Henry Jr. said. “I think they would all echo. We all got to share. She was a mother’s mother. Boy, she was great.”

Although funeral arrangements have yet to be made, Henry Jr. said he and all of his siblings who were in town Monday were able to spend some time with their mother. He described the time as “a very spiritual, healing moment for all of us.”

“When you lose your mom, you lose your best friend,” Henry Jr. said.
