Yakima police ID officer who fatally shot driver after chase
YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — Yakima police have identified the officer who fatally shot a man following a car chase Friday night.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports Scott Gronewald fired at the SUV driven by 66-year-old Terrance Ryan after police say Ryan rammed a police vehicle and a Yakima County sheriff’s vehicle.
Gronewald has been placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated by the Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit.
Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins said Monday that an autopsy found that Ryan died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities say Ryan was shot multiple times.
