About 20 hospitalized after unknown substance intentionally spilled in store
BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (AP) _ An unknown substance was spilled in a Wal-Mart store, sending several people complaining of burning eyes and throat irritation to two hospitals.
The Cabell County Sheriff’s Office said it had little information about the apparently intentional act, which was reported about 11 p.m. Saturday.
About 20 people, including nine store workers, were treated and released from the hospitals overnight, the store’s manager said Sunday. He would not give his name.
Sheriff Dallan Fields said deputies were looking for four suspects seen running from the Huntington area store after spilling the substance.
The all-night store was closed for about eight hours while investigators and emergency medical crews were at the scene, the manager said. It reopened Sunday morning.
