Sem, Redeemer Fall In Semifinals
Both Wyoming Valley Conference teams still alive in the District 2 team tournament, Wyoming Seminary and Holy Redeemer, saw their tournament runs end in Tuesday’s Class 2A semifinals, held at Kirby Park.
The Blue Knights came into the tournament as the top seeds, but were eliminated by Holy Cross, 3-2.
No. 1 singles player Nicole Joanlanne and the No. 1 doubles team of Christina Cikowski and Dominica Delayo earned points for Sem.
Joanlanne won her match against Caroline Cadden 6-4, 6-2. Cikowski and Delayo won their match 6-1, 6-2.
The fate of the match came down to the second doubles match. Sem’s Paige Parsons and Becca Hammerman were outlasted in three sets by Lucia Nardelli and Madelyn Klassner 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.
Holy Redeemer, the district’s third seed, lost 3-0 to second-seeded Scranton Prep in the other semifinal.
Holy Redeemer’s Camryn Cassetori led her top singles match 6-3, 2-1 before the match was halted when the overall outcome was decided.
Scranton Prep went on to beat Holy Cross 3-2 to win the district title.
Second-seeded Williamsport beat top-seeded Abington Heights 3-1 to win the Class 3A district title.
