Second fire in 2 days breaks out at church

November 14, 2018

Firefighters were called a second time in as many days to Unity Worship Center on Holton Avenue after a passerby reported another fire.

Adam O’Connor, Fort Wayne Fire Department deputy chief, said flames were visible in the rafters about 5:30p.m. Tuesday, but the fire was quickly extinguished.

The initial fire, which began about 10:30 a.m. Monday, moved from the basement to the roof and spread to “many areas of the church,” O’Connor said.

“Fires tend to run right up the wall and into the roofline,” O’Connor said.

No injuries were reported and it is under investigation.
