Soldier K illed in Aceh Violence
BANDA ACEH, Indonesia (AP) _ Violence in Indonesia’s Aceh province killed one soldier and wounded another on Sunday, the local military said.
The two soldiers were attacked by unidentified men in a market in Idi Rayeuk, a town in East Aceh, a local military officer said. One was stabbed to death.
Zainal Husin, a shop owner, said soldiers searching for the assailants burned down two buildings and some kiosks in the market.
The latest incident brought to 50 the number of people killed in the region since a three-month truce between the government and the separatist Free Aceh Movement began July 2. The Free Aceh Movement has been waging a 25-year battle to separate the oil- and natural gas-rich region on the northern tip of Sumatra Island from the rest of Indonesia.
