Fire Damages N.H. Abortion Clinic
GREENLAND, N.H. (AP) _ A fire damaged an abortion clinic that is often picketed by protesters.
The Feminist Health Center of Portsmouth sustained water and fire damage Sunday, when the clinic was closed. Fire Chief Scot Blanchard said today the fire ``may be suspicious,″ but wouldn’t elaborate.
The fire badly damaged a ramp providing access for the handicapped and charred a back corner of the building.
Diana Braun, the clinic’s executive director, said anti-abortion protesters picket outside the building once or twice a week.
``We have, in the past month, gotten a couple of things in the mail that were anti-choice materials,″ she said. ``One of them was enough to be taken seriously.″
The materials were turned over to police, she said.
