A judge is scheduled to determine a number of motions in the case of a Vermont man accused by his relatives of killing his millionaire grandfather in Connecticut for inheritance money. UPCOMING: Story, photo on merits.


— CHRISTMAS EVE SLAYING: A judge has sentenced a man to 55 years in prison for his role in a deadly Christmas Eve shooting in Bridgeport. The judge told 35-year-old Xavier Rivera Monday he has “no moral compass” and that “society needs to be protected” from him. SENT: 130 words.

— I LOVE MY LIBRARIAN: Librarians from Pittsburgh and Connecticut are among 10 winners of the I Love My Librarian Award. The awards were announced Tuesday by the American Library Association. Winners, each of whom receive $5,000, are nominated by local library users. SENT: 130 words.
