Ex-official charged in connection with affair with teen
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — A former town official from Connecticut is facing charges that stemmed from a sexual relationship he had with a teenage girl.
Former Farmington Town Councilor Jon Landry was arraigned Monday on misdemeanor charges of harassment and interfering with police.
Authorities say the 42-year-old Landry, using a fake name, met the girl online in 2008 when she was 12 and started having a sex with her when she was 16. He is not facing sex-related charges because the girl was the age of consent and the relationship was consensual.
The charges stem from Landry’s alleged threats against the now 22-year-old woman and his use of the “assumed name” in talking to police.
The Republican resigned in January.
Landry and his lawyer declined comment outside court. His lawyer previously said his client denies any wrongdoing.
