Cougars hoops split Bi-County matchups with O-D

Mercedes Rhodes scored a game-high 31 points, and teammate Katie Sauer chipped in 24, as Oregon-Davis took down New Prairie’s girls 81-59 in the Bi-County Girls Tournament on Tuesday. Jordan Winters led the Cougars with 16 points, and Sydney Meyers contributed with 13 points.

On the boys side against O-D, New Prairie picked up a 65-21 victory in the Bi-County Tournament’s first round thanks to Chase Ketterer’s 13 points and Mike Klemczak adding 11. The Cougars move on to the tourney’s semifinals on Friday night at LaVille.

Parry to officiate Super Bowl LIII

Michigan City native and Rogers graduate John Parry has been named the official for Super Bowl LIII. Parry was the crew chief for Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis in 2012 and worked as a line judge in Super Bowl XLI in 2007 when the Colts defeated the Bears in Miami.

La Porte Parks Youth Sports sign-ups

The La Porte Park and Recreation Department holds its Youth Sports Registration Night, with registrations offered for Boys Baseball, Girls Slowpitch Softball, T-Ball and Tennis, from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday in the lower level of the Civic Auditorium (1001 Ridge Street). Keeping sports fun, especially in the early stages of youth participation, is the primary concern of the park programs. The department promotes participation for all, positive competition and building character, as well as teaching fundamentals and traditions of the game, championing sportsmanship and encouraging family and community support. Glenn girls, boys hoops win Bi-County openers

John Glenn’s girls basketball team topped Triton 31-27 at home in a TCU Bi-County Tournament opener on Tuesday night. Maddie Hudspeth paced the Falcons (11-8) with 10 points, and Morgan Plunkett and Seja Lang each had six points. Glenn outscored the Trojans 16-9 in the third quarter. The Falcons next meet Bremen in a Bi-County Tourney semifinal on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CST at LaVille.

Glenn’s boys basketball team routed Triton 47-24 at home in a TCU Bi-County Tournament opener on Tuesday night. Carter Yung tallied 14 points for the Falcons (7-6), and Rob Porter had 10 points. Evan Dreibelbeis scored nine. Glenn held the Trojans to only three points in the first half, including no points in the second period. The Falcons next face Argos in a Bi-County Tourney semifinal on Friday at 5:30 p.m. CST at LaVille.
