Woman in critical after shot 3 times
A young woman is in critical condition after being shot three times in the Wells Street area Saturday morning.
Fort Wayne police said the department received 911 calls with reports of several shots near the 200 block of Third Street around 4:30 a.m., just east of Wells Street. The victim was taken to a hospital by a resident, where she was listed in critical condition, police said.
A neighbor pointed to a blue apartment house in the 200 block of Third Street where he said he heard shots fired and then saw police cars outside the house.
Investigators, however, believe the shooting may have actually occurred near the intersection of Fourth and Harrison streets, one block over from the apartment house, according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. That area saw a triple homicide on June 28, when three men were shot to death on Fourth Street between Wells and Harrison streets.
John Chambers, Fort Wayne Police Department public information officer, said shell casings were found at the Fourth Street intersection, but by Saturday afternoon it was still unclear where exactly the shooting occurred.
Police had no information on a suspect on Saturday and no arrests were made, the release said. Police request that anyone with information contact the Fort Wayne Police Detective Bureau at 427-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.
