DEEP SOUTH WEATHER
COLUMBUS, Miss. _ Weekend storms raked parts of the Southeast, leaving deaths and injuries in their wake as a tornado smashed into a commercial district in a small Mississippi city and drenching rains fed a rising flood threat. A woman was killed when a tornado hit Columbus, Mississippi, and a man died when he drove into floodwaters in Tennessee, officials said. Officials in some eastern Kentucky counties declared emergencies due to heavy flooding and mudslides.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. _ In August 1997, Holly K. Dunn was walking along railroad tracks at night near the University of Kentucky with her boyfriend Chris Maier. From the darkness, a man appeared and then bound and gagged the couple. He killed Maier with a rock. An AP Member Exchange.
