NEW YORK (AP) _ Metromedia Co. said Thursday it has completed the acquisition of ITT Communications Services Inc. and ITT Chernow Communications Inc. for an undisclosed price.

The deal, announced in March, makes Metromedia Long Distance Inc. the fifth largest long-distance carrier in the United States, after American Telephone & Telegraph Co., MCI Communications Corp., US Sprint Communications Co. and Telecom USA of Atlanta, which serves the Southeast and Midwest.

Metromedia Long Distance is based in Secaucus, N.J., and serves markets in Texas, Florida and the New York-New Jersey area. The company said the acquisition of ITT circuits would give it greater national reach.

The parent company, Metromedia Co., is privately owned, and its majority partner is John W. Kluge, the president and chairman.
